This is the story of Dex Erickson and the Milburn Honkers. The Milburn Honkers are a professional basketball team in the PrimeTime Basketball League. The PBL exists in a world where there was no NBA, there was no Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson. The legends in this world go by the names of Helmfrid Scherzer, Kurtis Smith, James Kennedy. There was no Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls. Instead we have the Los Angeles Greyhounds, the Boston Whalers, and the Chicago Stags. In this made-up world, Milburn is a major Midwestern American city. It is located on the Great Lakes.
This dynasty starts in the year 1979. But while the year is 1979, the general aesthetic of this dynasty is much more 40s/50s (without some of the negative aspects of that era).
The PBL began play in 1946 with 11 teams. The original members of the PBL were the:
Boston Whalers
New York Monarchs
Philadelphia Warriors
Buffalo Braves
Toronto Huskies
Washington Capitols
Cleveland Hornets
Detroit Falcons
Pittsburgh Ironmen
Chicago Stags
St. Louis Bombers
In 1947 the Baltimore Barons joined the fray. Four more teams joined in 1949, including our very own Milburn Honkers.
In 1974, when six new teams were added, the PBL moved away from a Western/Eastern Conference setup, and instead went to four divisions without conferences.
The current make-up of the league is as such:
Atlantic Division
Baltimore Barons
Boston Whalers
Brooklyn Nationals
Buffalo Braves
New York Monarchs
Philadelphia Quakers
Washington Capitols
Central Division
Atlanta Flames
Cincinnati Royals
Cleveland Hornets
Detroit Falcons
Indianapolis Olympians
Pittsburgh Ironmen
Toronto Huskies
Midwest Division
Chicago Stags
Dallas Lone Stars
Houston Marshalls
Milburn Honkers
Milwaukee Muskies
Minnesota Loons
New Orleans Buccaneers
St. Louis Hawks
Pacific Division
California Redwoods
Denver Zephyrs
Los Angeles Greyhounds
Phoenix Rattlers
Portland Pioneers
San Diego Sailors
Seattle Sockeyes
We join this dynasty as the 1978-1979 season has just come to an end. The Chicago Stags have won the last two PBL Championships, beating the Toronto Huskies in 1977-1978 and the San Diego Sailors this past season.
The Honkers have just finished a season which saw them go 25-51 and finish last in the Midwest Division. The Stags are obviously the team to beat in the division. This past season they went 63-13 in the regular season
