In the bottom of the 3rd inning Negro League II went on top for good scoring 2 runners on 1 hit. The critical plate appearance was by Wild Bill Wright who thrilled the crowd when he bombed a two-run dinger (his 4th of the season). Negro League II had a total of 9 hits for the game. Frank Wickware(2-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 2/3 innings and allowing 5 runs. Dizzy Dismukes gained credit for his 5th save. Hilton Smith(4-2) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 6 innings. The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. Joe Morgan smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 8th of the season) giving NL Post WWII the victory as 34,824 happy fans celebrated wildly. NL Post WWII totaled 8 on the afternoon. Jim Bunning(2-5) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. Candy Cummings(0-2) took the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter and surrendered 1 hit and no walks. Caribbean brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 4th inning. The key at-bat was by Hector Espino who deflated the crowd as he cracked a two-run shot (his 3rd of the season). Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning. Tiant Sr.(3-4) was the winner allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Tiant Sr. was helped out by Lazaro Salazar who recorded his 4th save. Randy Johnson(3-7) suffered the loss. He struck out 12 batters in 8 innings despite losing the game. The score was tied at 5 after nine. AL Pre WWII was victorious in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Bill Dickey drew a walk. Joe Cronin stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Joe Sewell then drew a walk to load the bases. Heinie Manush was up next and he worked the squeeze play to perfection making AL Pre WWII the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. AL Pre WWII finished with 8 hits in the victory. Stan Coveleski(3-2) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Joe McGinnity(3-3) was the loser. He allowed 6 runs and 8 hits in 9 and 1/3 innings. Snider enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He lined a one-base hit in the 2nd inning, lined a base-hit in the 4th inning and lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 11th of the season) in the 8th inning. For the game Left Outs out-hit Japanese League 14 to 7. The winning pitcher was Ferguson Jenkins(6-2) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Shigeru Sugishita(0-4) was given the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings. FOFC AT NL PRE WWII All Stars....... 3 0 4 0 1 0 0 3 0 - 11 15 0 Pre-Nationals... 0 0 0 1 3 0 0 0 0 - 4 9 0 Win:Nielsen(6-1) Loss:Alexander(4-3) Save:Fozborg(1st) Homeruns- P.Pflaggstettler-2(5th), D.Fouts(5th) Persimmon Pflaggstettler blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the FOFC All Stars defeated the NL Pre WWII team by a score of 11 to 4 at Booze Field. Pflaggstettler provided the offensive punch. He rifled a three-run blast in the 1st inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 5th of the season) in the 3rd inning. FOFC out-hit NL Pre WWII for the game, 15 hits to 9. The victory was credited to Rob Nielsen(6-1) who went 5 innings, allowing 4 runs. Nielsen got help from Sirr Fozborg who earned his 1st save. Pete Alexander(4-3) was hit with the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 7 runs in 3 innings.
