Eastern Michigan(11-12, 7-4 MAC) at Ohio (18-5, 7-4 MAC)

Huge game, the battle for 2nd place in the MAC. Eastern Michigan is rated 78 OVR (77 off/76 def/79 sht/80 REB), and we would appear to have the edge in every facet of the game.

We should do fine, we crushed them by 30 on the road in our first conference game of the year.

Scouting

PG WB McCoy – JR - 73 OVR – Looks like their best 3 point shooter(76), and their best defender by far(86, quite good actually). Great speed but not a good ball handler for a PG. 12.0 ppg/4.7 apg.

SG Haris Taft – JR – 72 OVR – Did not start last year. Great speed and quickness (90/88), decent shooter (86 close/77 med/71 3), but he's a poor defender (76), a poor leaper and doesn't hustle... he can shoot off the dribble(82). I'm not quite sure how to factor the speed vs defense vs hustle and such, but I'm hoping that a good handles guy like Cooper can burn him when we have the ball. 7.7 ppg.

SF Freddie Stehly – JR – 75 OVR – average/below average defense(74), not very fast, 86 in close, 75/72 from med and 3 point ranges. Looks like a pretty good leaper and dunker. He scored 10 ppg last year and has elevated his game quite a bit it appears, 15 ppg/5.7 rpg so far.

PF Kentrell Warner – FR – 68 OVR – 6'9”, average on the boards(80/76), average in the paint (73 o/71 d). 81close/81 in traffic. He's got no experience and probably won't be a big threat to us. 4 ppg.

C Dameon Archibong – FR – 67 OVR – Poor rebounder (73 o/76 d), average at best in the post (76 o/73 d), not a shot blocker at all, 82 close/80 in traffic. He's quite average. 5.3 ppg/5.3 rpg so far this year. 6'10”

Very ugly start for us. First we fall down 7-2, catch up, then fall down 17-10 and are just starting to catch up now. Open shots, free throws, looks inside, nothing going. We're 4-13 from the field(0-3 from 3), and 4/7 from the line. Backups are in.

As they've done so many times this year, the backups give us a huge lift. 3 from Mendoza, drives to the hoop by Lamkin and Lufkin and we've got the lead.

We scored a bucket, then they go on a 7-0 run to take a 32-27 lead. PG McCoy has 3 3's and 9 points for them. Murphy just hit a 3 to cut the lead down to 2.

They score the last 6 after we had tied it at 35. We're 6/11 at the line, 3/10 from 3 and just 43% from the field while allowing them to shoot over 50%. McCoy has 9, both their big men have 6 each, and Stehly, their SF that IIRC was the only guy to hurt us during the first matchup, has 6.

Cooper has 7, House 6, but they're 3/8 and 2/6 respectively, not good. 3 others have 5.

Backups are in. We had the lead down to 1 but neither team is really shooting well here, lots of back and forth and poor play from both sides. Cooper is into double figures for us and Murphy has hit a 2nd three.

Keller has our first four bench points of the half. Timeout EMU.

We've tied it up for the first time in the second half on a Mendoza 3 pointer.

A blocked shot by Keller on defense triggers a 6th man bonus from the crowd, and triggers a fast break that ends with a dunk by Watson to give us the lead!

Two fouls from Keller in quick succession give him #3 and #4 for the game, and we've now got 7 for the half, so they're shooting the rest of the way.

A little inside out game with Keller and Lamkin lead to an open 3 pointer by Lamkin that goes in, triggers another 6th man boost for our guys, and a timeout by Eastern Michigan.

Our backups finish things off with two inside baskets by Keller. They kept getting steals and blocked shots on defense and every single one triggered or re-ignited the 6th man boost, so I just kept the backups out there. A foul by Lamkin stops the game and the starters are on the way back in.

They cut it down to 3 and have a chance to cut it to 1, but miss the shot and we get 2 for House on the other end to push the lead back to 5, nearing the 3 minute mark.

After each team scores, we get a steal with our press, and Murphy ends up with a 3 pointer to give us an 8 point lead with 1:45 to go.

We force a miss and run out the clock.

Ohio 79
Eastern Michigan 71

Stehly ended up leading them with 14 points, PF Warner 12 and McCoy 11. They didn't make a single 3 in the second half I don't think, and finished the game under 50% from the field.

We end up at exactly 50%, and shoot much better from 3 in the second half (4-7, compared to 3-10 in the first).

Murphy: 11 points/2 assists
Cooper: 13 points
House: 10 points/4 boards
Delic: 3 points/4 boards
Sessoms: 7 points/6 boards

Mendoza: 8 points
Lamkin: 8 points
Keller: 8 points
Lufkin: 7 points
Watson: 4 points

The backups were so much more efficient today. Backups shoot 15-21 from the floor, and 4-6 from 3. That leaves the starters going 16-41, an amazing difference.
