April Update

-- We have matches scheduled for April 4th, 7th, 11th, 14th, 18th, 21st, 25th, and 28th... all league matches. Really? We play twice a week the whole damn time?

-- The board is satisfied with my coaching, budget control is a positive, David Campbell leaving a negative. We lost $38,150 last month.

April 4th, 2017

Wake Forest Cougars (0-1-1, 16th) vs Clearwater (1-1-0, 4th)

Attendance - 277

-- First meeting. Clearwater was 3rd two years ago but struggled and fell to 16th last year in this division.

Starting Lineup

GK: Gyan
D: Otoo/Forrest/Ashe/Varela
M: Williams/Shakespeare
AM: Davidson/Cooper
ST: Ratzburg/Cole

9': Gyan with a long kick after scooping up a pass. Cole is on it, not a completely free run at goal, but in a pretty decent spot. He cuts out right a bit, shoots... off the right post, so close.

13': Otoo wins a ball in the midfield with a volley ahead to Davidson, Davidson with a little run, a cross, Ratzburg is there 8 yards out with the header, goal!! 1-0

45': Gyan a goal kick, we win it and attack quickly, their defense breaks down a bit, Williams ahead to Davidson, Davidson has a great look from the left side of the area... but saved. He probably should have scored.

HALF: We look like the better team here, 6 shots to their 2, none on target for Clearwater yet. We have 55% possession and are passing and winning balls in the air much, much better than them.

52': We dodge a bullet, they win the ball after a goal kick, get a through ball to a striker who has snuck behind Forrest, a 1 on 1 with Gyan, he beats Gyan, but hits the left post and we clear. Whew.

54': Ratzburg is hurt and must leave the match immediately. Michael Maurer is in.

58': We intercept a pass in their end, Maurer ahead to Cole, clear cut chance from the edge of the box, but the keeper dives and turns it behind. Corner is awful.

60': Clearwater seems to be pressing a bit more. We drop back to defensive outlook and will try to retain possession more.

85': Justin Wright in for Brian Williams at MC.

86': First highlight in a real long time, they get a pass into the area and a shot, but pretty well defended and the shot is wide.

92': A red card on Clearwater as Cooper is brought down from behind after a Shakespeare pass saw him running free towards the penalty area. We try to shoot on the free kick and its closer to the sideline than the goal on the shot from Davidson.

95': The match is basically over, but we mount one last attack, Cooper with a very nice cross from 35 yards out, Maurer controls it well, no defenders are close to him at all, he shoots and easily puts it in! 2-0

Wake Forest 2 : 0 Clearwater

Man of the Match: Brian Davidson (7.5)
Goals: Maurer (7.1), Ratzburg (7.2)
Assists: Davidson, Cooper (7.0)
Notables: Varela (7.0), Ashe (7.4), Forrest (7.0), Otoo (7.1), Shakespeare (7.3)

Really great day all around here, our first Division 2 win! Ashe wins 10 out of 12 headers and makes 13 interceptions for his 7.4 to stand out in defense.

Injury Update

Patrick Ratzburg is going to miss 2 months with a broken rib, ouch.
