In one of my OOTP saves, I'm playing the hapless Dodges coach who probably has to deal with the dumbest GM and scouting staff in the history of baseball. We blew our #5 pick in the 1988 draft on Brian Holman for starters.
Anyway, I was just looking through some of the better teams. Like any team is better right now, but the current Boston Red Sox's lineup has these killers in it.
Don Mattingly (.341, 41 HR, 131 RBI) at first, Tim Teufel (.272 16 71) at second, Carney Lansford (.325 20 83, 28SB) at third, Wade Boggs (.336 3 80) at short, Kirk Gibson (.295 40 116, 34 SB) in LF, Eric Davis (.299 47 127, 67 SB, 151 R) in center, Fred Lynn (.305 41 124) in right, with Willie Upshaw (.228 8 72) as the DH and Dave Valle (.266 8 25) behind the plate.
That team did not win the World Series and Davis came in second for the MVP.
The rotation features Bruce Hurst, John Tudor, Oil Can Boyd, Joaquin Andujar, and Don Robinson.
The bullpen has Dave Smith as the setup guy with The Eck closing.
Good god, why couldn't I have coached the Red Sox instead?
