The most amazing inning of baseball.

From my Dodgers Dynasty. I didn't watch the game, but this box score and log. OMG. I was going to post the log, but I think I'll give you the play by play as it happened.

July 8, 1989 Kansas City. Royals v. White Sox

The game is tied at 2 as the Royals come up to bat. Kevin Teate takes the mound. He worked the last out of the 7th from Sox starter Fernando Valenzuela.

  • Leading off for the Royals is George Brett. Brett fouls off the first pitch, then takes the second one into the right field gap for a double.
  • Lou Whitaker is up next and the Sox walk him.
  • Luis Medina comes up and swings at the first pitch, flying out to right. One away.
  • Jesse Barfield steps up and swings at the first pitch. It's a line drive to right, that clears the fence. 347ft. 3-run HR. 3 runs in.
  • Pitching Change - Carlos Diaz comes on.
  • Terry Pendleton is next up. He takes ball 1. Next pitch Pendleton chops a pitch over the first baseman and down the line for a double.
  • Oddibe McDowell comes up next. He's a first pitch swinger and hits a grounder to Paul Molitor who can't get a handle on it and McDowell is on.
  • Catcher Matt Stark is next. Ball 1. Next pitch is hit deep over the CF head. Pendleton scores and McDowell races around before the throw. 5 runs in. 1 out.
  • Kirk Gibson is next. He works out of a 1-2 count and draws the walk. First and second.
  • Craig Grebeck is next up. He gets a 2-0 pitch in the right place and drives a ball deep, 400ft into seats for a 3-run HR. 8 runs in, 1 out.
  • Pitching Change - Bobby Castillo is on to pitch
  • Having batted around, Brett is back up to the plate. He smacks the first pitch past the 2nd basemen for a single.
  • Whitaker is next. Brett steals 2nd. With the count at 1-2, Whitaker gets a single into the left field gap. Brett holds at third.
  • Luis Medina is next. He got out last time up. He falls behind 1-2, but Castillo can't find the strike zone and he works out a walk. Bases are loaded.
  • Pitching Change - Jim Gott is on to pitch
  • Barfield homered his last time up, and he's up with them loaded. Ball 1. Barfield fouls off 2 straight back and it goes 1-2. Gott misses with the next 2 and it's 3-2. Barfield gets a hold of this one. Deep to the power alley in left. This one travels 409 ft for a Grand Slam! He has 2 HR's and 7 RBI's in the inning. 12 runs are in and 1 out.
  • Pendleton is up next. He works the count for another walk. Still just 1 out.
  • Pitching Change - C Todd Zeile is on to pitch.
  • McDowell hits a 1-1 ball over the third baseman for a single. Pendleton takes 2nd.
  • Matt Stark is up next. He drives a pitch into the right field gap that goes to the wall. Stark ends up on 2nd and Pendleton is in. 13 runs have scored.
  • Kirk Gibson is up again. He hammers a Zeile pitch into the right field alley and that goes to the wall. Both McDowell and Stark are in to score. 15 runs are in, 1 out.
  • Craig Grebeck is next. He homered last time up. Gibson has the audacity to steal 3rd with 15 runs in this inning. Grebeck fouls off a couple pitches before Zeile strikes him out for out number 2.
  • George Brett comes up for the 3rd time in the inning. He's down 1-2 in the count, then smacks a line drive to left and Gibson scores. Brett ends up on 2nd.
  • Lou Whitaker comes up again. He fouls off a 2-2 pitch. Next pitch he hits a towering drive into right field. This one is GONE! 2-run HR. 419 ft. 18 runs are in.
  • Up next is Luis Medina. Zeile goes up 0-2 quickly. And Medina hits a pop fly to right to end the inning.
So the Royals set the modern record for runs in an inning with 18 runs in. The record 17 was set in 1953 by the Boston Red Sox.

Some highlights in summary:

- The Royals sent 21 batters to the plate.
- They pounded out 13 hits in total, 10 extra base hit, 4 of them home runs.

- Jesse Barfield homered twice for 7 RBI's in 1 inning.
- Luis Medina accounted for 2 of the team's 3 outs, and walked in his other plate appearance.
- The White Sox used 4 relievers and a catcher to pitch in the inning.

- The Royals left 0 men on base.

- The White Sox went down on 9 pitches in the top of the 9th to end the game.

Final Score White Sox 2, Royals 20.

This is the single craziest inning in any inning in any game, ever.
