Maryland (12-6, 4-2 ACC) at Florida State (6-11, 2-4 ACC)

Maryland is unranked but has a nice RPI and 4-2 early in ACC play is solid. They're rated 91 OVR (90 off/88 def/92 sht/93 reb/91 coach). Their only conference losses are road losses at Boston College and Clemson. They have a 20 point home win over UNC.

We played them last year and they were very solid with just one senior on the roster. They look much more dangerous this year.

Scouting

PG Galen Valsin – SR – 88 OVR – 12.4 ppg/3.3 apg. 95 speed/92 quicks. 95 handling/81 passing... much better with the ball but not terrible passing really. 86 close/87 med/73 3. 85 off the dribble, 81 clutch(B+). He has great awareness and is a coach on the floor now. Lottery pick in the draft.

SG Devon Tyler – JR – 85 OVR – 91 speed/92 quickness. 85 defense/80 steals. 90 close/83 med/78 3/84 off the dribble. Great awareness, 80 off/85 def, 91 vertical and a good athlete. 7.3 ppg, he was playing behind a great SR SG last year so this is his first year starting.

SF Marvin Haigler – SR – 89 OVR – 6'7” natural SF. Outstnding defender for SF. 86 def/78 stl(A-/A-). He's a solid rebounder and post player as well. 92 close/85 med/79 3, 87 in traffic. He's a great athlete. B- vert/A- str/B hustle. Haigler averages 13.3 ppg/7.9 rpg. Projected first round draft pick.

PF Erick Waller – JR – 80 OVR – only 6'6” and a natural SF. 78 orb/77 drb. 69 post off/65 post def. 89 close/81 med/72 3/85 in traffic. 5.6 ppg this year, out of position and a particularly bad post player to be forced into the PF role.

C Corey Hudson – SO – 78 OVR – 6'10” - natural PF. 89 orb/80 drb. 82 post off/78 post def. Terrible shot blocker. 90 close/87 in traffic. 11.1 ppg/4.9 rpg.

Valsin is pretty amazing. I played him last year around this time and he was rated 84 OVR. He's had some pretty incredible development to turn into a lottery pick.

Maryland only has these 4 players rated 80+ on the team, but most of their bench is in the 77-79 range. I expect to get slaughtered. And with the coach on the floor we see a team unity disparity of 79-34.

We've only managed 3 shots... turning it over the rest of our trips. They have 6 points off layups from our turnovers. I get a timeout.

Forte goes down injured, no word on the severity yet. Backups are in.

Heh, Alloway scores 9, including a 3 to force a timeout from Maryland. Forte is able to return but has a sore knee... if he's slowed noticibly I'll probably use that as an excuse to make Alloway my starting PG in the 2nd half. Starters are back in for now.

We take a 1 point lead after a stop and a bucket from Sneed inside.

We are on a pretty big run here and go up 4. I did notice that Maryland just brought Haigler and Valsin back in off the bench, so we were going up against their bench, which isn't that much better than us.

They collapse in on Sneed in the post, he hits Moye and Moye drains a 3, 7 point lead, timeout Maryland!

We use what I believe is our 3rd timeout to avoid a turnover via a held ball... they play a half court press every 3rd trip down or so and its killing us, they have very good defenders.

Well they do come back, no surprise there, but we've still got a lead going into the locker room. We're shooting 47%, they're shooting 41%. Maryland is 1-9 from 3 which is a huge stat.

Maryland has 7 from Haigler and 7 from Tyler, just 4 from Valsin, both early easy buckets. We have 9 from Alloway, 7 from Sneed and 4 from Moye. Forte is noticibly slowed which I just can't deal with when they go into their half court press so Alloway will start the 2nd half at PG. Forte will play SG for the backups, McClurkin is fast too which helps w/ the press so he'll stay PG for the backups.

With all the timeouts in the first half Mayrland only has 3 the rest of the way, and we only have two.

Ozier draws a foul in transition and hits 1of 2, we're on the board. Sneed is 0-3 this half, 3 good looking post shots all whiffing.

Moye with a layup in transition and we get our second field goal in the last 14 minutes.

We get the lead down to 15 with 2 minutes to go and to 10 in the final minute but yeah just no chance.

Maryland 67
Florida State 57

They end up doing a good bit of their damage inside... 16 from Hudson/11 from Waller. Valsin 9/Haigler 8.

Forte: 2 points
Moye: 8 points
Ozier: 4 points
Sneed: 7 points/6 boards
Locklier: 4 points/7 boards

Alloway: 15 points

Ozier has the distinction of being the only person on the team who took at least 1 shot to shoot .500. He was ½. A few guys went 2/5. Sneed was 3-9, Moye 2-7.

Nasty, nasty second half for us.
