Week 1 thoughts....
You go into every new season with high hopes and so it's obviously disappointing when you play poorly in a first game.
We got the ball run down our throats. It was a bad performance by what should be our strongest unit this year. Andrew White had the only TFL in the front 4 and he played just 3 snaps against the run. Air Force ran the ball right behind their center 17 times for 127 yards. That falls directly on Vinny Houck and Ethan Clemons. That is bad news for two guys that have talented sophomores behind them.
We ran the ball well early and Dixon Horner outperformed Mike Hicks by a lot in this one. Hicks averaged 3.5 ypc. Our young offensive line was a bright spot. Michael Coggins, in particular, went 5 for 8 in KRO and Jumbo Tubbs went 2 for 3.
Quentin Bush still hasn't made the jump to reliable starter. His receivers dropped no passes and he didn't face much pressure but he still completed under 50% of his passes. We can't win consistently until he's capable of leading us to victories.
In Week 2 we travel on the road to face McAllen. They didn't play Week 1.
