Speaking of Oscars / great films, I finally got around to seeing The Pianist.
9/10 -- This was the best movie I've seen in a long, long time. Brody's performance was amazing. The story [based on real events] was about a world-class Polish pianist [who was also Jewish] who survived the German occupation of Poland during World War II. The pacing was brilliant. The use of violence was perfect -- just enough to show how harsh the conditions were and how brutal the Nazis could be, but nothing overly graphic. The music is almost worth the price of admission alone. Highly recommended.
