Berry College - Blue vs. White Intrasquad Meet - 9/25
The season kicked off this weekend with the Intrasquad meet. Bear ended up on the Blue team with Ross, Noah, Sam, Hunter, and Breck, which seamed decidedly lopsided given Ross, Noah, Hunter and Bear are the top 4 returning swimmers according to CollegeSwimming.com and Sam is the best freshman.
Unfortunately, we don't have results posted anywhere and the meet wasn't streamed so I didn't get to watch it. What I understand is that the Blue team won almost every event, which isn't really that surprising. As for Bear, he swam the 200 and 500 Free and the 100 Back. Putting Bear in the back screams of the coach looking for someone to step into that role.
With practice just starting and the team doing 2 a days, everyone is extremely sore and tired so it was very unlikely anyone was going to post a good time. Moreover, Bear mentioned that he didn't get a real good warm up prior to the start of his first race. In Bear's first event he managed to win the 200 free, beating Enrico and Ethan among others. He swam around a 1:51 flat. However, following the race, he really struggled to get a good cool down swim in, and it showed moving forward. His backstroke was a poor 1:03 and his 500 was a 5:27. He was very unhappy with those results.
Some other items of interest. Ross won the 500 going away. Breck won the 100 Back and right now is the lead candidate for that role. Noah, went 49 in 100 fly and a 46 mid in the 100 free - he's definitely turning it up a notch.
