1973 Falcons vs. 2002 Buccaneers

The write ups will be shorter for the remainder of this round.

The Falcons can clinch a birth in the next round with a victory. A Falcons' victory would also eliminate the Saints.


1st quarter

- The Falcons defense bends but does not break on the Buccaneers' opening drive as they force them to punt from just outside of field goal range.

- The Falcons block the punt and return it deep into Buccaneers' territory but are held to a field goal to take a 3-0 lead.

- After the Buccaneers were unable to get anything going the Falcons lose the football on a fumble in their own territory.

- On the first play after the fumble Michael Pittman breaks a 35 yard touchdown run to give the Buccaneers a 7-3 lead.

2nd quarter

- Both teams' defenses don't allow much in the second and neither team gets inside the other's 40 in the second quarter.

3rd quarter

- The Falcons open the half with a 12 play, 64 yard drive wich ends in a 25 yard field goal to get them to within 7-6.

- The teams exchange several punts the rest of the quarter.

4th quarter

- After holding the Buccaneers to a punt the Falcons start out on the Buccaneers' 30 after a great punt return. They manage to lose two yards on three plays but hit a 49 yard field goal to take a 9-7 lead with 11:18 remaining in the game.

- The Buccaneers go on an 8 play 57 yard drive which is capped by a 29 yard field gol to give them a 10-9 lead with 6:07 remaining.

- The Falcons can only get just across midfield but lose the ball on downs at the Buccaners 46 with 1:33 left in the game.

- The Buccaneers run the clock out for the victory.
