General Update - High School Swimming

We have an interesting situation developing for the high school swim banquet. We got an email from the coach regarding lettering, and she included the requirements for a swimmer to achieve the goal. There are a number of things swimmers must do, including: practice minimums, attending meets, and some performance based minimums. Here is why things are interesting:

Bear - with Bear's ankle injury he was unable to meet the practice requirements, which given the injury is probably excusable. However, because he wasn't able to compete he didn't go to several of the meets, which the coach may view as unexcused, and thus she could decide he doesn't meet the standard for a letter.

Bailey - in Bailey's case the problem is more fundamental. Bailey missed several meets with year round swims, and also with sickness (again probably excused). However, due to her limited number of meets, and quitting the year round practices she only managed to get 1 year round time. So she fails to meet the 2 cut minimum.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I'm not really sure how the kids will take it if they aren't granted their letters. Neither of them wear their letterman jackets, but they both understand the achievement aspect of getting the letter and they both want to be 4 year lettermen. We will see what happens...
