Not a bad matchup for the first game of the year. Two top 5 teams facing off in what was expected to be a shootout and the game did not disappoint. Arizona put up 533 yards of offense while Penn State added another 376 yards. Both quarterbacks thru 3 touchdowns and 1 pick. The difference in this game was a 50 yard Penn State drive which led to the game winning 32 yard field goal. After being down 28-14 going into the 4th quarter Arizona's 15 unanswered points made this game a nail biter at the end. The MVP was Arizona QB Keith Smith who was 14-28 251 yards and 3 touchdowns plus another 7 carries for 125 yards rushing.

Kansas - 17

Pretty boring game with 5 turnovers and Tony Fisher getting the MVP 12-61 yards and 2 TDs.

Chris Weinke led the way 25-38 359 yards and 3 TDs

#17 Texas - 20
NC State - 2

This one was all Texas RB Hodges Miller 128 yard rushing and 2 TDs. NC State had just 188 total yards, were sacked 6 times and could not move the ball.

#9 Ohio State - 0

Total rout by Miami who sacked Buckeye Steve Bellisari 3 times and picked him off 5 times. Bellisari was a pathetic 9-30 passing for 121 yards. Santana Moss was the MVP with 3 catches for 63 yards along with an 87 yard punt return for a touchdown.

Week 1 in the books with a very good Penn State vs Arizona game while the rest of the games were a bit on the disappointing side.
