The travel meet for the kids is this weekend, and they will be on a bus Saturday morning heading to Birmingham. The wife and I won’t be attending so all I’ll be able to do is report on times and any comments from friends or coaches. It’s hard to predict how this will play out…travel meets are always hard, but with the team stepping off the bus on Saturday and racing just a few hours later, I’m not at all sure how the travel will impact them. Also, you just never know how well they will take care of themselves (food, sleep, water, etc.)

That's Birmingham AL, right? If so, as per google maps, that's about a couple hours of driving, maybe a bit more by bus, right? Looks like Quebec to Montreal for us...

are they taken in charge by the team or are they on their own in terms of meals and such?

So far, the couple times Matthew has had to travel, wether we attend the meet or not, he travels with the team by bus and they stay at one hotel and all eat together at the hotel. We are charged one global fee for the meet, hotel stay and the meals and we only have to provide him breakfasts for the 2-3 days he's out there and they usually grab a Subway sub on their way back home to eat in the bus (included in the fee).

Soeaking of Matthew, he had his first meet of the season last weekend and as we had been seeing from his training since the start of the season, he dropped times in a massive way. His freestyle has really improved and he grabbed a bronze medal in the 100 fly event, in the 11-12 category, as an 11 yo (born in January, so like 11 year, 9 months old, swimming against some kids who are almost 13). It wasn't a very big meet, in fact it was the one meet in the season organized by our club. We were kinda nervous he could get complacent, seeing as he was competing in the same pool he usually trains in but now, he showed great composure and he is progressing nicely.

Let me know if you're interested in times and I'll find a couple minutes to post them...

Good luck to your kiddos this weekend!

Matthew's next meet will be in the last weekend of November. Pretty much one per month until June...
