SATURDAY

Saturday started off terribly. Bailey woke up feeling poorly and she couldn't really choke down her breakfast before the warm up. We've had this problem with Bailey in the past, especially when she would have early Tennis matches, so we figured it would pass. We'll it didn't. She threw up (which she's done before when she had to eat really early)...only this time it wasn't a 1 time thing. She threw up 4 times throughout the morning, was coughing bad, and was running a fever of almot 100. So she ended up scratching her events...

50 Breast - Brett over worked this one. He really tried hard to go fast, and with swimming and breaststoke especially, overworking can actually create drag and reduce the glide portion of the stroke. As it turns out his time was not far off from what he was typically swimming 43.6, but given his huge improvement in the 200 just weeks earlier, and a 2 second drop in the 100, I was expecting an improvement here...he was disappointed.

200 Back - Bear started this one way too conservatively, he fell back a good ways, and he was well off the pace. In the last 50 he passed 3 people to have a respectible finish, but he added 4 seconds to his qualifying time. 3:18.83

As I mentioned the air in the factility on Friday was bad, it wasn't any better on Sunday. Several kids finished up there swims and had to go outside to catch their breath because they were coughing from the chlorine smell. This led to quite a bit of concern, and in fact, one of the big swim teams (Dynamo) decided they would not be swimming relays in order to keep the kids out of the pool area. This greatly improved Brett's chances of getting a year round metal at the state meet for his relay. It was too the point the relays were lining up...and the police, firemen, and hazmat team stopped the meet to do an air quality check. This check took over an hour and while the air quality test came back fine (and that is debatable for a bunch of reasons) the session was cancled due to time constraints, leaving the relays and the 400 free unfinished. The relay was completely cancelled and the 400 free was moved to Sunday in the spot for the 400 Medley Relay which was also cancelled. So the poor air quality cost Brett both of his relay swims with his friends...

In case you were wondering, Bailey was fine by about 2 PM. No side-effects from the sickness at all. Pretty sure this was related to the chlorinated air...in fact, the symptoms for chlorine sickness match Bailey's perfectly.
