With our two remaining scholarships, we decide to offer forward
Douglas Coons a 6'4" 3-star prospect from Morehead City, NC. He already has offers from Rider, Akron, and Kent State so we are late to the game but its worth a shot. We throw our other scholarship at
Rickey Talbert a 6'3" 3-star guard from Miami, FL. We had several schools interested in having him walk-on but no offers.
We open the month with a 65-55 loss to UNC-Asheville despite 20 points from
Dana Brown. Coastal Carolina pounds us to a 72-52 beating, they killed us on the glass with a 47-25 advantage. We rebound nicely with a 66-49 drubbing of Radford, behind
Danny Graves double-double (11 points, 15 rebounds).
Orval Leonard has 18 points and 13 boards in the 78-51 route of Presbyterian but
Kenneth Medley left the game with a broken finger, he will miss the better part of the next month.
A late rally gives us a 67-63 win over Charleston Southern,
Brown led the way with 21 points. Another late rally leads us past Liberty to a 74-69 to pull us within 1 game of first place in the conference with 2 to play.
Brown and
Arthur Dyson combined for 35 points and our front court of
Graves and
Leonard both had double-doubles combining for 22 points and 26 rebounds. VMI is able to hold us off late and they beat us 77-68,
Brown had 22 points and
Dyson added 17 points and 9 rebounds in the loss. We recover from a slow start and beat Campbell 75-71 behind
Leonard's 20 points and 11 boards.
With the win against Campbell we finish the regular season at 16-12 overall and 12-6 in the Big South.
