Laggasch was set upon by a group of red crystalline entities nearby. Evasive maneuvers proved futile, and there was no time for an emergency hyperspace jump. The Collective's most accomplished survey scientist was lost.
05.24 -- First contact with the Cormathani Star Combine. This is our first encounter with a new empire in a few years.
In what appears to be another bug related to first contacts, I could not find their territory anywhere on the map.

We need to replace
Dr. Aslik Deesh even as the mourning for him continued. He had a long and distinguished career lasting several decades. We still have three survey captains out there, along with the three research directors, one admiral, one general, and five governors for a total of 13 of 14 in our leadership. A little over half the governor's spots are still unfilled at this point, so the question is basically whether we wish to recruit a fourth survey captain to keep the exploration going at the same pace, or whether it is perhaps better to improve our administration with another governor.
