NW Central Illinois State located near I-80 in a fictional town near Annawan, Illinois is rebranding itself this year. But the athletic department wants to replace its nickname "Governors" with something more unique and/or fierce.
While the university officials market test new names and work with a firm to determine that, the athletic name went to a contest that includes the public.
Here are the finalists. There's also a "Choose Your Own Name" suggestion which some argue is just a way to keep the existing moniker which is popular with school administrators for some reason.
