Group A, Round 4, Game 2

Arizona at Boston

Starting Pitchers

Josh Collmenter (ARI) vs. Clay Buchholz (BOS)

Game Recap

Arizona- 6, Boston- 4 -- Boston scored 4 runs in the 1st inning on 2 RBI doubles from Darnell McDonald and Jason Varitek, but got nothing after that. Despite the first inning woes, Collmenter ended up pitching 8 innings, giving up just 2 singles and 2 walks in his other 7 innings. Cole Gillespie had a pair of 2 run homers for Arizona, and Kelly Johnson had a pair of solo homers to give Arizona their scoring. 2 players were lost for the Red Sox, as Buchholz left the game due to injury after in the top of the 3rd, and after the game Darnell McDonald was suspended for 3 games due to testing positive for a banned substance (special results chart for the suspension, and I rolled a single die to determine # of games, 1-9).

New York Mets at Minnesota

Dillon Gee (NYM) vs. Francisco Liriano (MIN)

Game Recap

Minnesota- 3, New York Mets- 0 -- Liriano, Kevin Slowey, and Joe Nathan combined on a 7 hit shutout and the Twins got all 3 of their runs in the bottom of the first. A Carlos Beltran throwing error helped the process, as he threw the ball away after a Jason Kubel double, letting Kubel advance to 3rd. He scored on a Joe Mauer single after that. Slowey retired all 4 batters he faced, and Joe Nathan gave up a mere single in the 9th as the Twins continue to surprise as the #6 seed in their group.
