Let The Sabotaging Begin...

During the offseason, Miami offered us their 3rd Round Pick (8) in exchange for QB Terrance Fitzgerald. Since he was not a franchise QB in our eyes, we accepted the offer.

At the beginning of free agency, we set our sights on stealing Dallas' star tackle Erik Williams (who was rated as "Idolized") and TE David LaFleur, who had good ratings across the board. Since Williams' loyalty rating was "Very High" (87%), we doubled his requested signing bonus and surpassed his salary request for each year. Our strategy worked, and Williams signed with us after the first round of free agency. Our first defector!

With Williams in the fold, we turned our attention to LaFleur. St. Louis topped our intial offer, but we outbid them, and LaFleur eventually signed with us. 2-for-2!!! After this, we decided we had done enough and that there were no further Cowboys worth stealing.

We turned our attention to re-signing some of our own players. Kyle Diaz was our first re-signed player, landing a three-year deal based on his production in 2001.

Many of our players were demanding much more than they were worth, so we let them test the waters of free agency while we prepared for the 2002 draft.
