1967 Colts vs. 1999 Jaguars

A Colts team that is very good but did not see the Super Bowl, so in that manner it was an upset to get through qualifying. The team considered the best entry by the Jaguars should be able to represent them well. Will the Jaguars have what it takes to beat Unitas and company? The action is about to begin at Mile High Stadium.


1st quarter

**- The Jaguars start the game from their own 19.
- They are held to a three and out.

**- The Colts start from their 39 after the punt.
- Draw play to Tom Matte for 3 yards. 2nd and 7 at the 42.
- Tony Lorick gets the ball on an off tackle left. He is across the line, breaks a tackle, gets across midfield and down to the Jaguars 41 for a 17 yard gain. 1st down at the 41.
- Matte picks up 2 yards. 2nd and 8 at the 39.
- Lorick straight ahead for 2 yards. 3rd and 6 at the 37.
- Unitas back, looking, hits Ray Perkins in stride across the 30, he is inside the 20, inside the10, one man to beat, he is brought down at the 2 for a 35 yard gain. 1st and goal at the 2.
- Quick pass from Unitas to Willie Richardson but he is brought down immediately and loses 1 yard. 2nd and goal at the 3.
- Matte given the ball and is hit as soon as he gets the ball and dropped for a 2 yard loss. 3rd and goal at the 5.
- Unitas back, looking, fires in the endzone to Matte out of the backfield, incomplete. 4th and goal at the 5.
- Michaels attempts a 22 yard field goal. It's good. The Colts take a 3-0 lead.

**- The Jaguars start from their own 25 after the kickoff.
- The get one first down and punt from midfield.

**- The Colts start at their own 14 after the punt.
- They are held to a three and out and punt from their own 10 after a sack on third down.

**- The Jaguars start from the Colts 40 after the punt.
- Pitch right to Fred Taylor. He is around the end, side steps one tackler, has room, across the 30, inside the 20, the 10 and finally down at the 2 yard line for a 38 yard gain. 1st and goal at the 2.
- James Stewart gets the ball up the middle and into the endzone, touchdown. The extra point is good and the Jaguars lead 7-3.

**- The Colts start at their own 30 after the kickoff.
- Lorick picks up 1 yard. 2nd and 9 at the 31.
- Unitas back, throws up top to John Mackey. Complete into Jaguars territory. He is across the 40 and down at the 38 for a 31 yard gain. 1st down at the 38.
- Matte picks up 7 yards. Incidental facemask adds 5 yards. 1st down at the 26.
- Jerry Hill is stopped at the line. 2nd and 10 at the 26.
- Incomplete pass. 3rd and 10 at the 26.

- Unitas back, fires, batted fown, incomplete. 4th and 10 at the 26.
- Michaels attempts a 43 yard field goal. It hits the upright and is no good.

**- The Jaguars start from their 33 after the missed field goal.
- Brunell hits Keenan McCardell for 12 yards. 1st down at the 45.
- Brunell back, looking, tries to get away from pressure, backpedals, hit an sacked by Don Shinnick for a 9 yard loss. 2nd and 19 at the 36.
- Brunell hits Kyle Brady with a short pass for 4 yards. 3rd and 15 at the 40.
- Brunell back, looking, pumps in the direction of Brady over the middle, then floats a pass up top to McCardell, complete into Colts territory, inside the 40 and down at the 36 for a 24 yard gain. 1st down at the 36.

- Reverse to Alvis Whitted, it catches the defense off guard and he is in for the touchdown. The extra point is good and they lead 14-3.

**- The Colts start from their 25 after the kickoff.
- Lorick off right tackle, he makes one man miss, spins away from another, has room, he is across the 40 and down at the 47 for a 22 yard gain. 1st down at the 47.
- Unitas fires a quick pass to Richardson who is brought down at the line. 2nd and 10 at the 47.
- Matte picks up 2 yards. 3rd and 8 at the 49.
- Unitas back, fires too Perkins, complete in Jaguars territory. He is inside the 35 and down at the 32 for a 19 yard gain. 1st down at the 32.
- Lorick picks up 7 yards. 2nd and 3 at the 25.
- Unitas hits Richardson for 4 yards. 1st down at the 21.
- Matte picks up 10 yards. 1st down at the 11.
- Unitas hits Hill for 8. 2nd and 2 at the 3.
- Unitas throws into the enzone, incomplete. 3rd and 2 at the 3.
- Lorick gets the ball and is dropped for a 1 yard loss. 3rd and 3 at the 4.
- Michaels attempts a 21 yard field goal. It's good. They are bsck to within 14-6.

- Sweep left to Hill and he is around the end, across the 30, across teh 40 and down at the 42 for a 20 yard gain. 1st down at the 42. Timeout.
- Unitas hits Mackey for 16 yards, out of bounds. 1st down at the Jaguars 42.
- Unitas back, gives to Matte on a draw play, he has room through the middle, is across the 30, picks up a block, across the 20, cuts tot he outside, across the 10, one man to beat and he drags him into the endzone, touchdown. The extra point is good to get them to within 14-13.

**- The Jaguars start from their 25 after the kickoff.
- They get one first down and punt from near midfield.

**- The Colts start from their 25 after the punt with 25 seconds left.
- Unitas hits Mackey for 13 yards. 1st down at the 38. Timeout with 18 seconds left.
- Incomplete pass. 2nd and 10 at the 38 with 13 seconds left.
- Unitas throws across midfield to Matte, complete and down to the Jaguars 37 for a 25 yard gain. 1st down at the 37. Timeout with 3 seconds left.
- Michaels attempts a 54 yard field goal, it has the distance... but is wide right.

**- The Colts start the half from their 27.
- Matte up the middle for 4 yards. 2nd and 6 at the 31.
- Unitas back, fires, deflected and picked off by Tony Brackens and he is down at the Colts 32.

**- The Jaguars start at the Colts 32 after the interception.
- Brunell hits Taylor for 7 yards. 2nd and 3 at the 25.
- Brunell in trouble, he scrambles for 2 yards. 3rd and 1 at the 23.
- Taylor up the middle for 2 yards and he has the first down. 1st down at the 21.
- Taylor straight ahead, punishing the defense as he is inside the 10 to the 9 for a 12 yard gain. 1st and goal at the 9.
- Stewart up the middle, has a hole and drags a defnder into the endzone, touchdown. The extra point is good and the Jaguars lead 21-13.

**- The Colts start at their own 35 after the kickoff.
- Lorick off right tackle, he is hit and the ball is loose. The Colts recover at the 37. 2nd and 8 from the 37.
- Unita hits Richardson across midfield for 17 yards. 1st down at the Jaguars 46.
- Lorick picks up 8 yards. 2nd and 2 at the 38.
- Matte straight ahead for 4 yards. 1st down at the 34.
- Draw play to Lorick for 1 yard. 2nd and 9 at the 33.
- Matte stopped for no gain. 3rd and 9 at the 33.
- Unitas hits Raymond Berry inside the 20 and down at the 15 for and 18 yard gain. 1st down at the 15.

**- The Colts start from their 30 after the punt.
- Unitas underthrows Richardson. 2nd and 10 at the 30.
- Unitas back, looking, sacked by Tony Brackens for an 8 yard loss. 3rd and 18 at the 22. Timeout.
- Unitas drops back, he is hit and sacked by Bryce Paup for a 5 yard loss. 4th and 23 at the 17.
- Unitas back, looking, has time, fires up top to Richardson but overthrows him.

**- The Jaguars start from the Colts 17 after the turnover on downs with 1:03 left.
- Stewart for no gain. 2nd and 10 at the 17. Timeout.
- Sweep left to Taylor, he is around the end and as nothing but green in front of him as the defense was cheating up the line, touchdown. The Jaguars take a 35-20 lead and have almost certainly wrapped up the game.

**- The Colts start at their 26 after the kickoff with 48 seconds left.
- They manage one first down but the game ends as Aaron Beesley intercepts Unitas as time expires.
