Steve Victory JOURNAL – Wrapping up 2009-10

Final thoughts on Coach Victory’s seventh season as a head coach, his first at Alabama:

• Oregon knocks off Dayton the win the NCT title. No SEC teams make the Final Four.
• Notre Dame outduels Mississippi State (a reigning national semifinalist) in the ACT championship at Madison Square Garden.

No post-season awards for ‘Bama, nor should there have been.
Leading scorers from this season: Maurice Cambridge (15.5 ppg), Jimmy McArdle (11 ppg). Cambridge will be back next season.
Leading rebounder: Daniel Starkey (6.9 rpg)
Leading assists: Barry Seamon (a tragic last name by the way) – 6.3 apg

The College of Charleston, the team that Victory left to come to Tuscaloosa, finishes 19-12 under new coach Michael Williamson, 14-4 in the Southern Conference. The Cougars get knocked off early in the SoCon tourney and don’t make the NCT or ACT. Chad Driver led the scoring, averaging about 16 ppg.

On to season number eight – which will mark the halfway point in coach Victory’s quest to win an NCT title before he turns 45… That seems like a long-shot goal at this point, but who knows?
