Steve Victory JOURNAL – Season 2013-14

The Crimson Tide faces a tough task in its opener – a trip to #25 Wisconsin. Victory decides to push the tempo, get the ball into the post and make the Badgers beat his bunch from the outside. The ploy works, and Alabama races to a 95-85 triumph. Guard Erazem Lekivicius leads the scoring with 23 points (Wisconsin overplayed the post apparently).

Victory decides to keep the run-and-gun mentality, and his Tide responds with four more wins. Brody Adams leads the scoring in a 98-72 smashing of UMass. Alabama goes over 100 in a 103-83 win against Robert Morris. Michael Bliss scores 23 and pulls down 12 rebounds in an 82-80 nailbiter over Penn. An 84-72 win at Idaho State puts the Tide where it hasn’t been in a long time – at #14 in the national rankings. ‘Bama’s CRI is an amazing #9 during the first week of charting. While this high positioning may not last, Crimson Tide basketball is at least fun to watch again…

Victory’s team makes a quick exit from the polls with an 83-81 loss at Rutgers (CRI 250 – ugh) in game number six, but the rest of the non-conference slate goes well. The Tide gets ready for SEC play sporting a 10-2 record. Good wins, as Johnny93 likes to call them, come against Southern Cal (95-79) and New Mexico (102-69). The only other loss comes to the #5 team in the land, Dayton. The Fliers go ahead 51-35 at half and roll on to a 95-79 victory.

Everyone in the starting lineup has great games during this stretch. Jason Rude and Waitari Condill have 20-point nights. Bliss, Fischer and Adams lead the rebounding… At long last, the NCT drought could be over for Alabama. But the team still must navigate the always tough SEC schedule… No easy task...
