Steve Victory JOURNAL – Final thoughts on 2013-14

NCT Champion: Illinois outlasted Duke to win the 2014 crown (Coach Victory is glad the Dookies didn’t prevail!)
ACT Champion: Arkansas, of course… Argg…

Awards: Michael Bliss got player of the week a few times, but nothing else

Alabama Leaders (again a balanced year):
Scoring – Michael Bliss (13.9 ppg), Waitari Condill (13.5 ppg), Jason Rude (13.0 ppg), Erazem Lekivicius (11.3 ppg) Brody Adams (9.5 ppg). Almost every regular starter in double figures
Rebounding – Michael Bliss (9.5 rpg), Brody Adams (7.9 rpg)
Assists – Erazem Lekivicius (5.8 apg), Jason Rude (3.4 apg) – not the greatest numbers in the world…
Blocks – Michael Bliss and Brody Adams (all 6 feet, 6 inches of him) both with 2.4 blocks per game. Wow! Brett Fischer added 1.4 bpg.
FT % - Brett Fischer made 93.9 % from the line… Mr. Reliable.

Recruiting Update: Coach Victory does something in the summer of 2014 that he’s never done before – cut his own recruits. In fact, he jettisons two guys that have ratings that wouldn’t qualify them to play at Tuscaloosa High. Yuck — that’s what got ‘Bama in trouble in the first place...

Victory does land a stellar center prospect in Jordie Barnes out of Tracy, Calif. He could be the next Brody Adams and should push for minutes as a freshman. Victory also signs a decent PG prospect in Will Turner out of Palmer, Alaska (thought he was from Arkansas for awhile and wondered why recruiting budget was so much – doh!)…

The other two openings are filled with senior walk-ons. Shooting guard Bob Woods actually looks pretty decent. Point guard Taliek Edwards probably won’t play much at all…
