NL Pre WWII wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 4 runners on 2 hits. That early scoring was all that Rube Marquard(3-6) needed. NL Pre WWII rapped out 8 hits for the night. Amos Rusie(6-2) was the loser. He allowed 4 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings. AL PRE WWII AT OLD TIMERS Pre-Americans... 0 0 1 0 0 2 2 3 4 - 12 12 0 Ancients........ 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 - 2 7 2 Win:Faber(4-4) Loss:Keefe(5-7) Homeruns- B.Ruth(16th), K.Kelly(2nd) Left fielder Al Simmons had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Red Faber tossed a complete game at Cow Pasture Field as the AL Pre WWII ballclub, running on all cylinders, ripped the Old Timers Ancients by a large 12 to 2 margin. Simmons had a big day against Old Timers. He lined a base-hit in the 1st inning, doubled bringing in a run in the 3rd inning, tripled in the 8th inning and lashed a single which was good for two runs in the 9th inning. AL Pre WWII totaled 12 on the night. Faber(4-4) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. The loss was charged to Tim Keefe(5-7). He was knocked around, surrendering 8 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. This win by AL Pre WWII continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are 29-29. With the loss, the Old Timers ballclub's record is 33-25. Late 20th banged out 9 on the night. The losing pitcher was Bob Feller(5-7). Clemens was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on.' Robinson really 'lit it up' for Left Outs. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 3rd inning and electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run (his 6th of the season) in the 4th inning. Left Outs bats were very productive in the 2nd inning with 5 runs on 5 hits and the 4th inning when they had 6 runs on 5 hits. For the game Left Outs out-hit Caribbean 19 to 16. Steve Carlton(3-4) got the win allowing 6 runs in 7 innings. Luis Tiant Sr.(4-6) was hit with the loss. The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. Joe Jackson doubled. After another out, Bobby Wallace came up and he worked the squeeze play to perfection giving Dead Ball Era the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Despite losing, Negro League I out-hit Dead Ball Era 12 to 8. The victory was credited to Three Finger Brown(2-3) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run. Dave Barnhill(3-4) suffered the loss in relief. JAPANESE LEAGUE AT NEGRO LEAGUE II HOF Players..... 1 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 0 - 3 8 0 Twos............ 0 1 0 0 4 0 3 0 - 8 12 0 Win:Redding(5-6) Loss:Nomo(1-8) Homeruns- K.Nomura(8th), W.Brown(7th) Cannonball Redding allowed Cito Gaston to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and Willard Brown ripped a bases loaded blast as the Negro League II Twos topped the hapless Japanese League HOF Players by a score of 8 to 3 at Shadowball Stadium. Brown had a good evening at the plate. He brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand Slammer (his 7th of the season) in the 5th inning and laced a one-base hit in the 7th inning. Negro League II had a total of 12 hits for the game. Redding(5-6), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Hideo Nomo(1-8) ended up with the loss. NL POST WWII AT FOFC Post-Nationals.. 3 1 0 4 1 1 1 0 2 - 13 18 2 All Stars....... 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 3 - 8 12 2 Win:Marichal(8-4) Loss:Hunter(4-3) Homeruns- S.Musial-2(14th), E.Mathews(16th), P.Pflaggstettler(9th), D.Palmer(3rd) Juan Marichal dominated striking out 10 FOFC batters and Stan Musial slammed 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI at FOFC Stadium where the NL Post WWII ballclub beat the FOFC All Stars by the score of 13 to 8. Musial was a source of great heartache for the FOFC faithful all day. He just kept pounding out hits! He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 1st inning, smashed a two-run homer (his 14th of the season) in the 4th inning, laced a single in the 6th inning and lined a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners in the 9th inning. The NL Post WWII offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings. Marichal(8-4) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 8 runs for the win. Owen Hunter(4-3) was tagged with the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 3 and 2/3 innings. Marichal, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'
