Group 13
#13 Maryland (Big Ten, 28-7, 14-4)
Kansas State (Big 12, 15-17, 8-10)
Washington (Pac 12, 16-15, 5-13)
Tulane (American, 15-16, 6-12)
UNC Asheville (Big South, 15-16, 10-8)
Morgan State (MEAC, 7-24, 5-11)
This group is of particular interest for me for 2 reasons: Maryland and Kansas St. Being from Kansas, I support all 3 major schools in Kansas, although Wichita St. and K-State get more of my attention that KU does. Also, Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon formerly coached at Wichita St., and I like to see him do well. Obviously I want those 2 teams to advance from group 13, so we'll see how it goes.
--------------------------------------------------------
Week 1
Washington- 70, Tulane- 60
Maryland- 72, Morgan St.- 45
UNC Asheville- 70, Kansas St.- 69
Really K-State? Really? What a whopping start my Wildcats are off to.
Week 2
Tulane- 63, Morgan St.- 61
Washington- 67, Kansas St.- 62
UNC Asheville- 67, Maryland- 56
Don't look now but the #5 seed from this group is 2-0, beating both my teams. Ugh! I'm not liking this already.
Week 3
Maryland- 73, Tulane- 66
UNC Asheville- 72, Washington- 67
Kansas St.- 76, Morgan St.- 58
Bout damn time my Wildcats won a game. How about UNC Asheville and their hot start?
Week 4
UNC Asheville- 68, Morgan St.- 53
Washington- 65, Maryland- 56
Tulane- 69, Kansas St.- 60
I am losing interest in this group quickly, but at least I know one of my teams will win in week 5 (and 10) since those are the weeks they play each other.
Week 5
Maryland- 58, Kansas St.- 46
Washington- 71, Morgan St.- 41
Tulane- 63, UNC Asheville- 50
--------------------------------------------------
Standings after 5 weeks, with point differential in parenthesis:
UNC Asheville 4-1 (+19)
Washington 4-1 (+49)
Maryland 3-2 (+26)
Tulane 3-2 (+7)
Kansas St. 1-4 (-9)
Morgan St. 0-5 (-92)
I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised to see Kansas St. sitting at 1-4 through the first half of this group. After all, they were not a good team in reality this past season, and the inconsistency showed all year. Unfortunately, WIS is making them consistently bad right now. I find it hard to imagine things will stay like this though. UNC Asheville's luck has to run out at some point, doesn't it?
