On one of the boards I read, a guy decided to buy 2 and ebay them together.
He took a $25 loss after the taxes he paid and the ebay fees. Supply was high enough and apple.com will get them to you within a couple weeks. Any big money auctions you saw was probably from bidders that will never pay.
