Hilton Smith(2-0) gave a fine effort for Negro League I. He went 8 innings allowing 9 hits and 1 walk. Negro League I had a total of 11 hits for the game. The loss was charged to Addie Joss(0-2). He gave up 3 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings. OLD TIMERS AT NL POST WWII Ancients........ 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 6 5 Post-Nationals.. 1 2 2 2 3 3 0 0 - 13 11 0 Win:Gibson(1-1) Loss:Keefe(0-3) Homeruns- E.Delahanty(2nd), E.Mathews(2nd), E.Banks(5th), B.Gibson(2nd) Bob Gibson completed the game without help from the bullpen and Ernie Banks slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI at Big League Field as the NL Post WWII club belted the Old Timers Ancients by the count of 13 to 2. The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance provided by Banks. He tripled in the 3rd inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 5th of the season) in the 6th inning. NL Post WWII had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings. Gibson(1-1) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Tim Keefe(0-3) took the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings. CARIBBEAN AT AL POST WWII Estrellas....... 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 3 8 0 Post-Americans.. 3 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 - 6 9 2 Win:Feller(1-3) Loss:Mendez(0-2) Save:Fingers(2nd) Homeruns- O.Linares(5th), R.Jackson(2nd) The AL Post WWII team defeated the Caribbean Estrellas by a score of 6 to 3 at Yawnef Park. The game started off with AL Post WWII taking the lead in the first when they tallied 3 runs on 5 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Harmon Killebrew who electrified Yawnef Park when he doubled scoring two baserunners. AL Post WWII finished with 9 hits in the victory. Bob Feller(1-3) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Rollie Fingers recorded the save, his 2nd. Jose Mendez(0-2) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6 runs in 3 innings. NEGRO LEAGUE II AT LATE 20TH Twos............ 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 1 6 1 Modern Stars.... 0 4 0 0 1 1 0 0 - 6 8 2 Win:Clemens(2-0) Loss:Brewer(0-3) Homeruns- P.Molitor(1st) Roger Clemens pitched a complete game and third baseman Paul Molitor touched them all and had 3 RBI as the Late 20th Modern Stars defeated the Negro League II Twos by the score of 6 to 1 at Free Agent Field. Molitor enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He smacked a three-run homer (his 1st of the season) in the 2nd inning, tripled in the 4th inning and tripled in the 6th inning. Late 20th rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon. Clemens(2-0) allowed 1 run on the game. Chet Brewer(0-3) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 7 walks in 7 innings. Late 20th now has a record of 9-5. With this loss, Negro League II has a 4-6 record of late, 4-10 overall. AL PRE WWII AT LEFT OUTS Pre-Americans... 2 0 1 0 3 0 0 0 2 - 8 17 0 Leftovers....... 1 3 3 0 2 0 0 0 - 9 9 0 Win:Sutton(1-1) Loss:Mays(0-1) Save:Drysdale(2nd) Homeruns- B.Ruth-2(6th), L.Gehrig(2nd), E.Averill(4th), J.Foxx(8th), D.Snider(3rd) Center fielder Duke Snider hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at Overshadow Pk as the Left Outs Leftovers beat the AL Pre WWII ballclub 9 to 8. It was a good day for Left Outs thanks to Snider. He clubbed a three-run home run (his 3rd of the season) in the 3rd inning and doubled in the 5th inning. AL Pre WWII had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Don Sutton(1-1) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Sutton got help from Don Drysdale who earned his 2nd save. Carl Mays(0-1) ended up with the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of work. Babe Ruth rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI in a losing cause for AL Pre WWII. DEAD BALL ERA AT FOFC Ghosts.......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 - 2 8 1 All Stars....... 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 3 11 2 Win:Kronside(3-0) Loss:Brown(0-1) Homeruns- J.Nights(2nd) Shortstop Jeff Nights jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI at FOFC Stadium as the blistering-hot FOFC All Stars beat the Dead Ball Era Ghosts in 11 innings by the count of 3 to 2. The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. FOFC came out the victor in the 11th inning. Persimmon Pflaggstettler laced a base-hit. Barrett Blade followed and he ripped a base-knock. Dan Fouts then drew a walk to load the bases. After an out was recorded, Billy Bullock stepped up to the plate and he laced a base-knock giving FOFC the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. FOFC finished with 11 hits while Dead Ball Era ended up with 8. The win went to Jace Kronside(3-0) who allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Three Finger Brown(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. FOFC continued on their recent roll, their winning streak now reaching 9 games and counting.
