This would be correct, except that I assume you fall asleep where you are unless you say you are trying to stay awake.

Public statements are just that, you've blurted out something for everyone to hear. In regards to searching it means you've left the door open and are making enough noise that everyone knows what you're doing and perhaps....finding?
