We're hosting a playoff game. Woot. The defense regressed. So much for infusing fresh blood. (Note to self, ride the cohesion train all the way off the cliff.) I mean honestly the defense was flat weird. A lot of bad there, and the turnover stuff is almost silly.
We turned it over a fair amount, but that differential is pretty heavily skewed by a lack of takeaways. We had a bunch of fumbles... but I had to go digging to find them. QB Samuels was pretty good. And the rookie we slotted into our primary rusher spot was great. Our cool new returners fumbled 10 times. Another big win for my "addressing offseason objectives" resume. We got much better from a return yardage standpoint... Seriously though, the rookie CB punt returner we signed (who does nothing else) was top 5 in average yardage but fumbled 6 times on 30 returns. Is that even possible?
The defensive regression is doubly frustrating because I feel like I've delicately constructed some kind of legitimate offense that hinges on a refreshing communist spirit in the receiving corps. And I'm just not sure how viable the whole house of cards is.
Ah well, maybe we can win a playoff game.
