The rules on a number, but not all, of the Spawn abilities indicates Night actions. None explicitly list Day actions. Which is what has me so perplexed.

My guess is he saw we were already WAY close to lifting off in excellent shape, has a bunch of 1/game (or similar) abilities he can use, and shot his wad early due to our major advantage.
It's a nice play, if it was all/mostly his doing.
