2002 Regular Season

Well, let's just say the 2002 season left us some room for improvement. We went 1-15, with our only victory coming against Washington late in the season.

The Final Standings for 2002 in the NFC East were as follows:

Dallas 10-6
Washington 8-8
Arizona 8-8
Philadelphia 7-9
NYG 1-15

2002 Playoffs

The playoffs started off badly with Dallas knocking off Detroit 38 to 13 in the Wildcard Round.

The Divisional Playoff Round was worse, with Dallas crushing St. Louis 27-9 (I guess Darnell Fox wasn't so good after all!).

Finally, Green Bay annihilated Dallas 29-3 in the NFC Championship, and order was restored to the universe.

2002 Super Bowl

Despite their admirable thrashing of Dallas, Green Bay went on to lose to Indianapolis in the 2002 Super Bowl.

Green Bay 17
Indianapolis 20

Edgerrin James earned the Super Bowl MVP award, while Marshall Faulk earned NFL MVP honors for 2002.

As for us, we knew 2002 would be bad, and it was. But we accomplished some goals. First off, we absorbed some of the salary cap costs from cutting the entire team. After next season, we will be free and clear. Second, we found a player or two worth keeping for next season (more details in the offseason). Third, we earned the number one pick in the 2003 draft (well, maybe EARNED isn't the right word...). And finally, we took our first steps toward rebuilding the team and sending Jerry Jones and his Cowboys packin'. Baby steps, Bill always tells me. Baby steps. Even Microsoft wasn't built in a day.
