4 feature games this week, 3 of which involved either Michigan or Michigan State, and the 4th being a conference game in the American Conference.

12/25/17- Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) @ Michigan (Cillian Tribble) -- A rare meeting between the Tribble siblings, but it was only a contest for 1 half. Michigan broke open a 4 point halftime deficit with suffocating defense in the second half. Charlotte had 13 turnovers and shot 39.6%, while the Wolverines shot 45%. This led to Cillian winning the sibling battle.

Final Score: Michigan- 70, Charlotte- 54

12/28/17- #2 Kentucky (Patrick Hutt) @ Michigan (Cillian Tribble) -- This was a much closer battle than expected, despite the fact that Michigan turned it over 20 times. The difference was at the foul line, as Kentucky made 22 free throws and Michigan made only 12. The Wildcats survived, but it was close.

Final Score: #2 Kentucky- 87, Michigan- 79

12/30/17- Michigan State (Al Mighty) @ Stanford (Benito Sanchez) -- This would be a heck of a Rose Bowl match-up in football, but this is basketball. The Spartans showed their dominance by holding Stanford to just 36.5% shooting and forcing 17 Cardinal turnovers. Michigan State, on the other hand, shot 50.9%. All this led to a fairly easy victory.

Final Score: Michigan State- 72, Stanford- 58

12/30/17- ECU (Al Hutt) @ Tulsa (Will Brown) -- Despite shooting 51.9% for the game, the Pirates were still on the short end of this one. Tulsa attempted 20 more shots, thanks to forcing 22 turnovers. But the big difference was the three point line, in which the Golden Hurricane made 16 three pointers. That was huge and led to a victory that Tulsa might not have gotten otherwise.

Final Score: Tulsa- 94, ECU- 86

Now to the rest of the weekly recap:

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 8-7, 1-2 America East.

12/27/17 vs. UMass Lowell (L 68-60).
12/31/17 at Albany (L 64-50).

Not a good week for the Hawks, who lost to a 3 win team in UMass Lowell. Ugh! They've got 3 very winnable games coming up though, and hopefully those games will get their confidence back up.

ECU (Al Hutt) -- 3-7, 0-3 American.

12/27/17 vs. #25 Cincinnati (L 92-60).
12/30/17 at Tulsa- feature game, highlighted above.

Tough week for the Pirates, who if not for some hot shooting by Tulsa, might have won that game.

Tulsa (Will Brown) -- 10-4, 3-0 American.

12/27/17 at Tulane (W 68-66).
12/30/17 vs. ECU- feature game, highlighted above.

The Golden Hurricane are rolling, and they can definitely thank hot shooting, especially the ECU game.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 8-4, 0-0 Atlantic 10.

No games this week for Coach Childress and the Wildcats, who get a much needed break after a 4 game week last week. They get conference play underway next week.

Clemson (Charles Johnson) -- 6-5, 0-1 ACC.

12/27/17 vs. #5 Virginia (L 88-87).

Heartbreaker for the Tigers in their only game of the week. They fought tooth and nail with the #5 team in the nation, only to see a last second shot fall short. Great effort though.

#20 Duke (Dean Hoo) -- 8-3, 0-1 ACC.

12/27/17 at North Carolina (L 70-62).

Just the 1 game this week for the Blue Devils, and they don't enjoy starting off with a rivalry game. They fell short, and get off to a bad start in the ACC.

#11 Kansas (Dave Johnson) -- 10-3, 1-0 Big 12.

12/26/17 at Arizona (L 83-73).
12/30/17 at Kansas State (W 77-39).

A split this week for the Jayhawks, who obliterate their in-state rival Kansas State. Should have had that Arizona game though. Too many chances not taken advantage of.

TCU (Bee Mighty) -- 8-5, 1-1 Big 12.

12/25/17 vs. #4 Baylor (L 77-60).
12/30/17 vs. Texas Tech (W 76-66).

Nice split for the Horned Frogs, who get a conference victory early. They seem to have Texas Tech's number lately.

Michigan (Cillian Tribble) -- 7-5, 0-0 Big Ten.

12/25/17 vs. Charlotte- feature game, highlighted above.
12/28/17 vs. #2 Kentucky- feature game, highlighted above.

A split for the Wolverines, who actually played a top 5 team well. They'll start conference play next week.

Michigan State (Al Mighty) -- 10-2, 0-0 Big Ten.

12/26/17 at Ole Miss (W 68-57).
12/30/17 at Stanford- feature game, highlighted above.

Good week for the Spartans, who beat a couple pretty good teams as they get ready for conference play next week.

#14 Northwestern (Ess Vee) -- 11-0, 0-0 Big Ten.

12/30/17 at Fordham (W 69-66).

The Wildcats continue to shine in non-conference play, despite a schedule that wasn't the toughest. Conference play awaits, and it'll get tougher in a hurry.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 7-7, 0-0 Big West.

12/29/17 vs. North Texas (W 95-71).

Just 1 game this week for the Warriors, and the firecoachgunn.com website has cooled down considerably with this 5 game win streak. Now, Coach Gunn needs to go out and dominate the Big West, and that starts next week.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 3-9, 0-0 Conference USA.

12/25/17 at Michigan- feature game, highlighted above.

The 49ers lose the sibling rivalry and now have a 6 game losing streak and absolutely no momentum heading into conference play.

Rice (Charlie Shocker) -- 6-5, 0-0 Conference USA.

12/25/17 vs. UT Arlington (L 83-74).

Perhaps the long layoff was more harmful for the Owls than we thought, as they lose their only game of the week to a very beatable team. They also start conference play next month with momentum not on their side.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 5-10, 3-5 MAAC.

12/26/17 vs. Murray State (L 89-52).
12/28/17 vs. Howard (L 58-50).
12/31/17 at Niagara (L 58-56).

Not a good week for the Hawks, who lose all 3 games this week. 2 of them were close, and 2 of them were non-conference games. A couple winnable conference games next week though.

Norfolk State (Payten Carrano) -- 4-8, 0-1 MEAC.

12/25/17 vs. Hampton (L 61-58).
12/29/17 at Rider (L 77-71).

The Spartans lose 2 very tough ones this week, including their conference opener. They've now lost 7 of their last 8 and the season is going downhill fast. The MEAC is really still wide open though, and Norfolk's next opponent is a team that hasn't won a game yet this season.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 5-6, 0-0 Pac 12.

12/28/17 at Minnesota (L 66-52).

The Buffaloes continue their inconsistent play in their only game of the week, getting blasted at Minnesota. They now head into conference play, and to be honest, there doesn't seem to be an immediate front runner.

Stanford (Benito Sanchez) -- 9-3, 0-0 Pac 12.

12/25/17 vs. Mississippi State (W 68-56).
12/30/17 vs. Michigan State- feature game, highlighted above.

A split for the Cardinal this week, but how much satisfaction can they really take in beating a 2 win Miss. St team that was just demoted from the SEC in the offseason? Michigan State was their marquee non-conference game and they blew it. Hopefully they pick it up in conference play.

#16 UCLA (Tim Shepard) -- 10-2, 0-0 Pac 12.

12/26/17 at UC Irvine (W 70-42).

Easy win for the Bruins in their only game of the week before they start conference play.

Washington State (DeShawn St. John) -- 8-4, 0-0 Pac 12.

12/25/17 at North Florida (W 61-59).
12/29/17 vs. Montana State (L 72-65).

The Cougars have got to feel a little embarrassed after that Montana State game, as that was Montana State's first win of the season. 2 inexplicable losses to much lower prestige teams have made the non-conference a bit of a downer. Still a good start at 8-4, but no momentum going into conference play.

Alabama (Roy Rogers) -- 5-7, 0-0 SEC.

12/29/17 at Louisville (W 56-55).

A much needed win for the Crimson Tide as they head into conference play next week. It wasn't official though until a last second Louisville shot bounced off the rim and stayed out.

#17 Florida (Noah Oppenheimer) -- 10-2, 0-0 SEC.

12/29/17 at Iowa (W 100-88).

1 game this week for the Gators, and it was a shootout, but the Gators get the win and some momentum headed into conference play.

#2 Kentucky (Patrick Hutt) -- 11-1, 0-0 SEC.

12/25/17 vs. California (W 81-57).
12/28/17 at Michigan- feature game, highlighted above.

Good week for the Wildcats as they win a couple before conference play starts.

Troy (Brett Hawkins) -- 6-7, 3-3 Sun Belt.

12/28/17 at UL Monroe (W 64-56).
12/30/17 vs. Arkansas Little Rock (W 69-62).

2 solid wins for the Trojans, who get back to .500 in conference play. Next week, one of those great schedule quirks as they'll play a home and away back to back against the same frikkin team.

Here is a look at the national top 25 headed into not only next week, but also the year 2022:

Kentucky stays put at #2, while UCLA, with their win moves up 2 spots. Northwestern continues to get no respect as they move down a spot. Florida also stays put, and the Arizona loss causes Kansas to drop 7 spots. Back in the top 25 is Michigan State, as they take Duke's spot. Duke actually lost all their votes after their loss to UNC.

Now a look at the mid-major top 25 going into next week:

Davidson, despite not playing a game this week, gets 3 votes, while Tulsa gets 1 vote. Well, at least there some representation in the mid-major polls from our FOFC teams. Better than nothing.
