Group 24

Week 10

Butler- 57, Wyoming- 54 (OT)
Austin Peay- 78, Long Beach St.- 76
Troy- 70, C. Conn. St.- 69 (OT)

Final Group 24 standings:

#1- Butler 8-2 (+63)
#2- Troy 6-4 (-35)
#3- Austin Peay 6-4 (+6)
#4- Wyoming 4-6 (-16)
#5- Long Beach St. 3-7 (-5)
#6- C. Conn. St. 3-7 (-13)

So Butler wins the group and will probably be a seed between 30 and 40. At this point its so hard to guess, but they seem to be a middle of the pack group winner. Troy gets second place in the group. To my surprise I found that there were 2 other group runner ups that finished with a 6-4 record and negative point differential. However, Troys' point differential is by far worse than both of theirs. Right now Troy is looking at seed #116, which would be the worst seed for the group runner ups. I don't expect it to get much better unless we have a 5-5 group runner up. And Austin Peay takes third. I was wrong about the third place team not being in wildcard contention. That 6-4 record for Austin Peay gives them at least 4 or 5 groups without having to worry about being eliminated. Sadly, that does eliminate High Point. We wish them farewell and congratulate them on a good run. This makes Pacific next on the chopping block. There are just 2 teams left in wildcard contention that are 5-5, all the others are 6-4. Moral of the story? Finish group play with at least a 6-4 record to even stand a chance. And lets applaud Troy and Austin Peay, who were seeded 5th and 6th in this group, respectively. Both have a chance to go dancing (make the round of 128.) Here are the wildcard standings through Group 24:

N.C. Central 7-3 (+63)
E. Michigan 7-3 (+50)
Texas 7-3 (+27)
Iona 6-4 (+116)
