North American Open Cup - Group Stage - Group L

Wake Forest Cougars (2-0-0, 2nd) vs Belleville Squires (2-0-0, 1st)

Attendance: 465

-- Belleville won their first match 5-2 for the goal differential lead. We're the only two teams at 6 points.

GK: Gyan
D: Campbell/Pickering/Galvis/Varela
DM: Williams
M: Glaser/Shakespeare
AM: Rose/Crook
ST: Ratzburg

Campbell and Galvis in on defense, Glaser gets his first start (he was one of the ones struggling with match fitness). Rose/Crook at AM, Cooper gets the day off, while Ratzburg gets his first start up front. Pace is a sub today, his fitness kind of sucks since he just came back from a long term injury which is why Ratzburg is getting so many chances here.

1': We build up on offense, Ratzburg sends it out wide for Rose, he crosses to the far post, Crook heads it.. off the post, clear cut chance right out of the gate, darn.

2': Shakespeare ahead to Rose, who shoots from an awkward angle and puts it wide. Wish he would have tried to get it to Ratzburg or Crook there.

3': A great tackle from Varela stops their offense in its tracks, a ball ahead to Rose and he runs iwth it, we work it around a bit, Shakespeare pulls it out wide to the left, sends a low cross to the 6 yard box, Ratzburg is there and its an easy finish! 1-0

16': A poor pass by them gives Shakespeare the ball, he immediately sends it long, Ratzburg is on it, instead of trying to beat his man he sends it wide for Rose, who can't score.

23': We have a corner, taken to the far post... a defender of theirs is hit by the ball and it bounces in the net. Own goal! 2-0

28': Crook to Ratzburg for a nice headed goal.. but offsides.

43': Crook with a solid shot from the right side of the area, but saved by the keeper. Rose recovers it near the baseline but they tackle well and eventually clear.

HALF: Another great half for us. We only control 51% of possession but outshoot them 8-0.

50': Crook to Ratzburg who tries a shot from 20 yards out, wide and high.

53': Ratzburg picks up a minor injury, hopefully no big deal.

58': Complete breakaway for Rose, but he doesn't know what to do. He holds up play 18 yards out instead of charging the keeper. Then he just shoots from there, and its well off target. That was pathetic.

81': A quick strike from them, run down the right, cross, and a goal from ST Borin. 2-1

83': Davidson in for Rose, Pace in for Ratzburg.

89': We have a corner, taken to the far post, there's a penalty as Pickering went up for a header! Shakespeare takes the penalty and drills it. 3-1

We are absolutely on fire!

Wake Forest 3 : 1 Belleville

Man of the Match: Mark Shakespeare (8.5)
Goals: Shakespeare, Ratzburg (7.9) (there was one own goal)
Assists: Pickering (7.1), Shakespeare, Ratzburg
Notables: Gyan (7.0)

Galvis with a 6.6, Rose a 6.4. Rose is better at crossing the ball, but Davidson is a much much bigger scoring threat.

-- We again receive $7,600 for the win.
