Not sure what side of the "Do George and Ringo count?" debate it supports, but here's some numbers. (Realizing that numbers are only one part of the debate). Personally, I think I could be persuaded either way (or even end up with a Ringo-yes / George-no compromise that would leave no one happy).

With this specific band, I think I'm persuaded that the gross numbers, rather than percentages, should be our guide.

We talk about (random pull) Benjamin Orr and say "well, he only sang on 15% of the Cars songs, so he counts as an unusual lead." And I would agree with that.

But here, I'm just inclined to see that George Harrison sang lead on 39 songs for the greatest band of the era and to me that's an easy "he's out" even if it ended up being the same 15%.

Might be hard to defend purely, but I feel fine with this.


So would the Grand Funk Railroad guy who only sang on one song ("American Band"), but it's basically the only song most of us know by the band period, so who wins there? Is he a contender, or disqualified?
