It's absolutely a game where you have to set your own goals and make your own fun. For me it's tons of fun to build, mine and explore the underground. There are some goals and quests to advance in the game, such as unlocking and defeating different bosses and events, though they won't be given to you in game and you'll have to read the
wiki to learn what you need to do.
