Barclays Premier League
Sheffield Wednesday (6-3-6, 21 points, 10th) vs. Dover (13-1-0, 40 points, 1st)
Hillsborough, Sheffield, England

Betting Odds: Sheffield Wednesday: 7-2 Draw: 9-4 Dover: 4-6 (Favourites)
Past Meetings: 11W 5D 4L

Sheffield Wednesday are in their ninth straight year in the top flight after being as low as League 1 back in 2010. They spent £16 million during the July transfer window, spreading it pretty evenly among 8 players. Steve Pates has 14 goals in only 13 games and always is their most dangerous player but he and fellow strike partner Darijo Jukic will miss today’s game due to injury. Both of those injuries came in their last match, which was against Birmingham. This team is decimated right now with five key players out.

We’re back to a full strength squad for this one and can only hope complacency isn’t an issue.

Dover: 4-4-2 Control
GK - I. Wilke
D - Renato Gaucho, C. Contreras, M. Mutesa, S. Loucif
M - A. Bamba, B. Raab, Jose, G. Bolis
S - P. Moses, Chiquinho
Bench - R. Lopez, Rafinha, E. Harvey, N. Cairney, M. Pedersen, S. De la Vega, A. Broomes

Ok, Wednesday are in a flat 4-4-2 and are going with Ricardo Silva and Sandi Labrovic up front. Fernando Cardoso is in goal. I ask for a good performance for the travelling support today.

14’ - Sheffield start off well and dominate the early highlights but we end up striking on our first real chance. We work possession off a throw in and the ball comes to Paul Moses near the top of the area. He cuts to his strong right side and unleashes a blast that is off the hands of Cardoso and into the net! Great shot! DOVER GOAL 1-0

22’ - We earn a corner and Benedikt Raab’s cross is to the far post and Claudio Contreras. It’s a great header but Cardoso makes a brilliant diving save! There’s a rebound and there is Moses, right on the doorstep, heading it past the down and out Wednesday keeper for his second of the game and 20th of the season! DOVER GOAL 2-0

45’+3 - We work a counter attack and Gianluca Bolis is taken down hard inside the Sheffield penalty area but no foul is called. He’s hurt and will need to be replaced as the whistle blows. Sergio De la Vega will come in for the second half. DOVER INJURY: Gianluca Bolis

HALFTIME - Sheffield Wednesday held 52% of possession and we outshoot them 7-7 (5-2 on target) in an even half that just saw us take advantage of our opportunities. Hopefully things will open up a bit in the second half. I tell the team I’m pleased and tell De la Vega to pick up where they left off.

51’ - De la Vega makes an instant impact again, sending in a lovely low cross that is met by Arsene Bamba, as he slides the ball through Cardoso’s legs and in! DOVER GOAL 3-0

66’ - Raab is banged up so I take him out and bring in Emmerson Harvey.

Not our best but a decent road win.

Sheffield Wednesday 0 - 3 Dover
Goals - Paul Moses 2 (8.8), Arsene Bamba (8.0)
Assists - Claudio Contreras (8.5), Jose (7.1), Sergio De la Vega (6.9)
Man of the Match - Paul Moses
Other Dover Notables - Salim Loucif (7.5), Mwemere Mutesa (7.3), Renato Gaucho (7.6), Benedikt Raab (7.0), Chiquinho (7.0)
Attendance - 41,950

A rare game where an opponent holds more of the ball, as Sheffield had 54% of possession but we outshoot them 17-13 (8-3 on target).

-- Gianluca Bolis suffers a bruised rib and will miss about a week. He will miss our big match against City on the weekend but should return a day or two later. DOVER INJURY: Gianluca Bolis (Bruised ribs - 6 days)

Record League Goal Scorer

-- Paul Moses gets noted as now being Dover’s all-time leader in goals scored in league play with 75, one more than another current White in Zoltan Bardi. At 22 years of age, Moses will continue to add to this total for years to come.

Premier League Team of the Week

-- Moses is named to the Barclays Premier League team of the week.

Dover Reserves Update

-- Manuel Lugo continues his incredible progression, scoring two goals and adding two assists in an 8-0 destruction of Wolves Reserves. Zoltan Bardi also scored twice and we got singles from Emmerson Harvey, Rodolfo Lopez, Mads Pedersen and Rafinha, as we were able to start a very strong lineup today.

Champions League - First Knockout Round Draw

-- We draw the second place team in Italy, Sampdoria, in the first knockout round. The first match will be played in Italy in mid-February.

Next Up

-- A huge Premier League match, as we head to Manchester to face City.
