A sad day in the history of Rattlesnakes baseball. The team owner, Valentin Gonzalez, has died. He worked long and hard to turn around the Snakes team and now he is dead just when the team is showing some signs of life. His son, Randy, will now take over as owner. From Mack Carver's talk with him, it looks like he is willing to be a lot more freehanded with money and less controlling than his father – also he is ecstatic about how the team is performing!

The Snakes remain in fourth place at 47-44. Pedro Cortez continues to hit the daylights out of the ball, and is still leading the league at .392. Cesar Guillen is now 11-2 and is third in wins in the entire league. The team had several All-Stars this year – Guillen, Cortez, outfielder Ross Robinson, and closer Steve Mills who has 18 saves and a 3.03 ERA.

The Rattlesnakes made a big splash on the Internet when they signed a trade deal with the Detroit Comets. The Comets get utility infielder Steve Gentry, who had played quite a few games for Atlanta, but the Snakes get star outfielder Miguel Reyes – it's a great deal for Atlanta, as Reyes is a great contact hitter with fantastic running speed and good fielding. They will take that deal any day.

Atlanta is still playing better than .500 ball, and remains in fourth place – currently they are 66-58. The Detroit Comets and Albuquerque Roughriders lead their divisions, each with a 73-51 record. Pedro Cortez is still the league's top hitter and William Sharp is one of the best power hitters in the league. Attendance at Rattlesnakes Park is already over 1.5 million, and could reach close to 2 by the time the season is over. Plus the owner will make a healthy profit.
