The roster expansion has arrived and some of our minor leaguers may get a shot at some playing time now. Atlanta is currently in 5th place and has a 73-66 record. William Sharp is the second best slugger in the league so far – second in home runs with 35 and third in RBIs with 99. Pedro Cortez continues to hit well but has fallen off a bit – third in the league at .347. Cesar Guillen is 16-4 and shows no signs of slowing down. 2nd baseman Jim Stuart leads the team in hits and Atlanta has been fending off trade offers for him all season.

The Rattlesnakes first season under Mack Carver is now over – they finished it out at exactly .500 – 84-84, and finished 5th in the Eastern. This year has to be considered a great one for the organization – they excited the fan base, more than doubling fan interest and attendance from last year, and a lot of their young team really showed what they can do.

The Detroit Comets and Albuquerque Roughriders will be playing in the Diamond Series this year- the Denver Mountains won an impressive 101 games but finished two back of the Roughriders. In the end though it was the Comets winning it all with a four game sweep.

In terms of awards, Mountain Man Hunt of the Denver Mountains picked up the Jack Calhoun Award for best pitcher – finishing off with a devastating 24-2 record and 1.44 ERA. This is Hunt's second Calhoun but probably not his last.

Outfielder Bob James of the Los Angeles Champions picked up the prestigious Golden Lion award for best hitter – he hit .326 with 35 homers and 107 RBIs, and led the league in extra base hits and total bases.

Though Javier Gonzales was in the running, the Silversmith Award for rookie of the year went to 2nd baseman Ed Holland of the Brooklyn Bears.

Meanwhile, in a reminder of what can happen at a failing club, the worst team in the league was the Dallas Wildfires – after the season the owner wiped the slate clean – axing the GM and the manager.

Here's what the team stats looked like for the 2051 season. Pedro Cortez was the leading hitter on the team at .350 but because he was on the DL at the end of the season he's not shown at the top of the page.

As you can see, we were the top hitting team in the league this year, in average and total hits, but our pitching was one of the worst in the league.
