Virginia Tech (10-6, 2-2 ACC) at Florida State (5-9, 1-2 ACC)

I'm curious to see if we can beat a team who isn't UVA or Miami. The Hokies are rated better than us in every category but haven't been that great on the court. They're 89 OVR (88 off/89 def/90 sht/88 reb/92 coach). They lost a game to Miami which has to be embarrassing, but they beat UNC by 13 last week.

Scouting

PG JB Matsui – JR – 85 OVR – 92 speed/90 quickness. 89 defense/73 steals. 93 hands/87 passing(A-/B+, extremely good). 91 close/64 med/80 3/89 off the dribble/81 in traffic. 77 o awareness/84 d awareness, good for coach on the floor status. A very strong all around player, 15.1 ppg/4.9 apg so far this year.

SG Jarred Warzynski – SO – 80 OVR – 91 speed/82 quickness. 79 D/78 steals, the steals can be scary but he is very bad on ball. 83 close/71 med/74 3. 80 off the dribble. Great hustle(92/A-). Good rebounder for a guard to(79 drb/B+). Just 5.8 ppg, seems overshadowed, and hopefully Moye can take advantage.

SF Quin Moreno – SR – 83 OVR – 6'9” SF, 86 speed/84 quickness... very fast for a big SF. 79 D is about average for a SF. 88 close/75 med/69 3/85 in traffic. Strong athlete... B+ vert/B+ str/C+ hustle. 13.2 ppg/5.3 rpg.

PF Etienne Harmon – JR – 83 OVR – 6'7” natural PF. 85 orb/83 drb. 93 post off/83 post def. 89 close/90 in traffic. His other ratings may suffer a bit... though I don't see where. Hell why is this guy only rated 83 OVR? He's a monster. 71 o aware/69 d aware.. not a great dunker. 13.7 ppg/4.9 apg. 83 shot blocker. This guy has great skills in all the right places, that post offense is A level, all his physical abilities are B level or better(A vert/B str/B hustle). Harmon looks like the best player on the team honestly.

C Bamba Wilmont – JR – 76 OVR – 78 orb/83 drb. 79 post off/81 post def. 91 close/84 in traffic. Only 6'8”. We've got a big size advantage here. Just 4.9 ppg.

Matsui is a coach on the floor. They have two backup guards... Manning and Bright that have 3 point ratings of 82 and 84.

Virgina Tech signed the #3 recruit class in the nation last year and they have 4 freshmen on the roster rated 75+, 3 guards and a PF.

Haha wow. Va Tech has a team unity of 78. Ours is 32.

We try to force sneed early, and they get 2 blocked shots, Sneed is 0/5 and Ozier and Moye are 0-1 each. Time to look elsewhere for now at least for scoring. I get a timeout.

Two steals for Va Tech, and we're now 0-10 from the floor. I go ahead and get the backups in because why not, the starters haven't scored yet!

Alloway gets out on the break and blows by his man for a layup, and we are on the board.

Ok the offense has gotten off its ass and gotten moving. Despite my fears about Harmon from looking at his ratings, they do prefer their guards pretty heavily. Warzynski has 8 early on for them.

Alloway can be incredibly explosive... if he develops at the rate an A- potential suggests he could end up a superstar for me. Sanders gets a bucket inside and then Alloway scores 8 straight. I've complained about his slow release and that is a problem, but he is very explosive and very good going to the basket. He's got 12 of our 19 and has saved the day.

That said... starters are back in.

Timeout Hokies. We had it 22-21 and had 2 chances to take the lead and came up empty both times. They get back out 24-21 and Sneed gets his first bucket to make it a 1 point game again.

They score 7 straight to go up 31-23. We get a bucket then 4 more by Va Tech and we're down 10... I get another timeout and hope to end the half strong.

HALF

Tough half. We withstand a huge early run and get the lead down to 1, only to allow a late run and go into the locker room down 9.

Neither team shoots well, 38% for Va Tech, 34% for us. They are 3-8 from 3/8-9 at the line. We're 1-5 from 3/7-11 at the line. Matsui, Warzynski, and Wilmont(their center) all score 8 in the half. Matsui is a horrid 3-11 in coming up with those 8 points though.

On our end, its all Alloway. He has 12. Sneed has 4, no one else has more than 3. Moye is scoreless. I don't think we can win games where Moye is scoreless, he's too important to our offense.

We take 3 ½ minutes to get our first points and they're on fire. We did have it 44-34 but they just hit 3's on back to back possessions. I get a timeout.

We can't get it back below 18. Its 20 now and I get the starters back in.

Just a miserable performance except for one hot streak in the first half where Alloway went crazy. I quick sim at the 5 minute mark, still down 20.

Virginia Tech 79
Florida State 64

Virginia Tech was 3-8 in the first half from 3. When I simmed it out they were 8-17(5-9 in the 2nd half). All 5 of their starters hit double figures, SF Moreno ends up leading them with 15, Warzynski 14.

Forte: 3 points
Moye: 9 points (2-9 shooting)
Ozier: 3 points
Sneed: 13 points/6 boards (6-15 shooting)
Locklier: 2 points/8 boards

Alloway: 17 points

Disappointing loss really, as I think there are at least 4 teams in the ACC that are better than Virginia Tech, maybe more. Although... even with team unity effects turned way down(but not off)... a 78-32 difference is a bit insane.
