Pre Show Match
--Rick Rude w/Jimmy Hart def. Bobby Fulton in 5:39 by pinfall after a Rude Awakening. (C, 61) After the match, Jimmy Hart hypes Rude as the next big thing in wrestling and a future champion. (C+, 67)

Pre Show Match

--Bobby Eaton def. Bill Ash (one-night deal) in 7:20 by pinfall after a spinning neckbreaker. (C+, 70)

--Ricky Steamboat comes out to be interviewed by Lance Russell. Steamboat says he is tired of Buzz Sawyer’s antics lately and challenges him to a match later in the show so he can be humbled. (A+, 97) Sawyer and Jimmy Hart come out and accept Steamboat’s challenge with Hart saying nothing or nobody is gonna stop the Mad Dog from winning the Southern title. (A, 90)

--Hercules Hernandez w/Adrian Street def. Jerry Stubbs in 6:08 by submission after a full nelson. (B-, 72) After the match, Street tells Lance Russell that Hercules is his bodyguard, just in case “Gwendolyn” wants to make a move on him. (C, 65)

--The Sheepherders, Jonathan Boyd and Rip Morgan, come out for a promo with Lance Russell. Boyd and Morgan express their displeasure at the Fabulous Ones for their attacks on the “most respected and feared team in professional wrestling”. (C-, 56).

--The Fabulous Ones come out and spray their way toward the announcers table. Keirn says the entire arena is filled with the smell of goats and sheep. Lane wonders aloud to Keirn if that was the just the smell of their old ladies. (B-, 75)

AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match
--The Midnight Express w/Jim Cornette def. Rick Gibson and Terry Taylor in 7:21 by pinfall after Dennis Condrey landed a full nelson faceslam on Gibson. (B-, 75) The Midnight Express make their third defense of the AWA Southern tag team titles.

--After the match concludes, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express come out and sarcastically congratulate the Cornette and his team. Ricky Morton again challenges the Midnight Express to a title match, this time at Night of Champions. Cornette says he will think about it and get back with them. (C, 64)

--Jerry Lawler comes out for an interview with Lance Russell. He asks Russell what have we come to when people are hitting themselves in the head and drawing blood on purpose in 1983. (B-, 74) Buzz Sawyer then comes through the crowd and attacks Lawler at the announcers table. Sawyer lays Lawler on the table and performs a diving splash onto him from the edge of the ring through the the table. (A+, 100)

--Bill Dundee def. Don Bass in 8:25 by pinfall after a piledriver. (B-, 76)

--As Dundee is leaving the ringside area, Randy Savage comes out for an interview with Lance Russell. He says he has yet to hear an answer from Dundee on what type of match he wants and, furthermore, challenges Dundee to any type of match at Night of Champions. (B+, 88)

--Ricky Steamboat comes out and cuts a promo. He says that promoter Eddie Marlin has approached him and asked him about an inter-promotional match at the Night of Champions. He says he doesn’t know who he is facing but welcomes a challenge from any wrestler from any part of the United States. (B+, 83)

--Junkyard Dog and Manny Fernandez w/Jim Cornette fought to a draw in 9:52 when Jerry Calhoun lost control of the match and declared a double stoppage. (B, 82)

--Following the match, Jim Cornette taunts JYD and challenges him to a no time limit, no disqualification match at Night of Champions so he can’t have the chance to cheat. JYD agrees to the match. (B-, 71)

--Buzz Sawyer w/Jimmy Hart def. Ricky Steamboat in 16:27 by pinfall after a small package. The match had sensational wrestling and fantastic heat. (A, 91)
