Every year my wife offers to make caramel apples and it sounds like a great idea every time. However, they're really just a pain to eat. Any after the first day have to be refrigerated and then have to sit out for like an hour before they aren't hard as a rock. Even on that first day, you have the whole sticky chin problem as a full apple on a stick is just not a natural shape to eat.
We've gone to making caramel apple slices. Higher caramel:apple ratio and a lot less of a pain to eat.
