-- Lets play Valdosta again, this time trying to promote.

-- The day before our match Maunabo and Port St Lucie both win, keeping the pressure on us to perform. This means we can't clinch 1st quite yet.

September 24th, 2016

Valdosta Victory (12-5-8, 4th) vs Wake Forest Cougars (14-6-5, 1st)

Attendance: 300

-- We're now 2-0-0 lifetime against Valdosta, lets make it 3!

Starting Lineup

GK: Gyan
D: Coggins/Burke/Forrest/Jackson
M: Williams/Shakespeare
AM: Rose/Crook
ST: Ratzburg/Navarro

Cole has been struggling a bit lately, I really want to see how Navarro can do, his match fitness isn't where I want though, so he may just play a half.

3': first shot of the match is theirs, a free kick well wide.

7': We win a header on a free kick and look to attack, we build up down the left side for awhile, a ball goes to Ratzburg, he passes back to Navarro who tries a shot from 25 yards... its saved, but the keeper can't hold it, Ratzburg races to the rebound, beats the keeper to it and scores!! 1-0

10': Crook passes to Navarro in the area, he's near the end line, doesn't look dangerous, but he's tackled, penalty! Shakespeare buries it. 2-0

18': They have a corner, Burke heads it away, headed back in again, and headed out again by Burke. It falls to one of their guys 18 yards out, he blasts a shot through the crowd in the box and Gyan makes a nice reflex savve.

21': Burke blocks a shot to give them a corner, Gyan punches it away.

25': Shakespeare with a minor injury.

28': They counter after we lose the ball in midfield, our defense does a good job staying back though and Jackson blocks a shot in the area and clears it.

47': One last attack for them, they earn a corner, Burke heads the corner out.

HALF: They outshoot us 6-5, we are winning a lot in the air, really the only difference. In highlights it looks like our positioning on defense has been good enough to make it hard for them to get clear looks.

Perkins is on for Shakespeare at the half.

65': After a long clear from Burke, Navarro hits Crook running in from the right, he's got a clear cut chance but hits the crossbar with it.

69': Burke can't clear a ball after trying a tackle, they recover and we're out of position, they get a pass to a guy coming in from the left but Gyan makes a spectacular save.

75': They send a cross to the 6 yard box, Gyan tries to punch it out but fails, the ball falls to an unmarked attacker and they score. 2-1

79': Arredondo in for Navarro, Pickering in for Burke.

85': Defend/retain possession.

We watch them take one more desperate long shot but that's it.

Valdosta 1 : 2 Wake Forest

Their goal scorer is man of the match.

Goals: Ratzburg (7.2), Shakespeare (6.8)
Assists: Navarro (6.8)
Notables: Gyan (7.1), Burke (7.0), Coggins (7.1)

The left side of our defense, Burke and Coggins, great ratings, Jackson and Forrest 6.4/6.5, a big difference. Rose struggles too, 6.4 for him.

That was the win we needed, we've officially clinched a playoff spot. More importantly, we are 6 points clear of 2nd with 2 matches left. A single point anywhere gets us the league title.

1. Wake Forest - 51 points
--------------------------
2. Port St Lucie - 45 points
3. Maunabo - 44 points
4. Valdosta - 41 points
5. Saturn FC - 40 points - 3 left
--------------------------
6. Lexington - 40 points - 3 left
7. Hattiesburg - 39 points

2 left for everyone but Saturn and Lexington. Their game between each other may decide the last playoff spot. Valdosta is in a bit of a freefall, they could still fall all the way out too.
