GK - Our goalkeeping was much stronger last year than I could imagine, with 32 year old Ingo Wilke continuing to play at a high level in a workhorse role. We added young English international Chris Davies and he played just as well in limited action. He’ll likely get more starts this season as Wilke will be in tough to play that many games again at his age. Philippe Jung is our third-stringer but won’t amount to much here. I may look to see if there is a market to move him.

D - We continue to showcase incredible continuity on the backend, with main starters Salim Loucif (our captain), Renato Gaucho, Claudio Contreras and Rayane Hamon all back for their sixth year in a row as starters together. That said, we are aging in spots, with Loucif and Hamon getting close to the point where they’ll lose effectiveness. Mwemere Mutesa will certainly challenge Hamon for a starting DC role while last year’s big fullback pickup Rodolfo Lopez will try to get more playing time as well. Adrian Torres will provide excellent depth in the centre of the park and we have a couple of good looking youngsters coming up as well.

M - Midfield has always been a strength of the team and this year is no different, with the sensational Benedikt Raab working alongside 26 year old Neil Cairney and 28 year old Jose in the middle. We got 16 goals from our right midfielders last year (Gianluca Bolis and newcomer Sergio De la Vega) and 13 from our left midfielders (veteran Arsene Bamba and youngster Mads Pedersen). We could perhaps add some depth pieces on the wings but again, I do have some youngsters ready to graduate from our excellent U18 program so we could go that route instead.

F - Our strikers were once again sensational last year, with Paul Moses and Chiquinho combining for 59 goals but we got great contributions as well from Andy Broomes (17 goals in 13 starts) and Manuel Lugo (8 goals in 12 starts), showing the incredible depth we have at the position. Lugo finally started to show why we paid such a huge transfer fee to come here but it will be very interesting to see if he can bounce back from the brutal broken leg he suffered that has kept him sidelined for close to six months. We also have old reliable Zoltan Bardi still around but we may move him soon, as we have a couple of incredible prospects graduating from our U18 program in Fernando Estrada and Bakary Kone.

It’s an interesting time at our club, with key players like Ingo Wilke (33 this year), captain Salim Loucif (28), Rayane Hamon (29), Arsene Bamba (30), Gianluca Bolis (28), Jose (29), Chiquinho (31) and Zoltan Bardi (29) all moving through their prime. They are all still very effective players but we’ll soon have to begin transitioning away from those veterans and bringing in younger talent to replace them. Some of that will begin this year, I’m sure.

There are no real goals in the transfer window, other than to keep looking out for the best young talent in the game.
