4 feature games again this week, and each one of them comes from a different conference. Pretty impressive.

1/3/22- Michigan (Cillian Tribble) @ #15 Northwestern (Ess Vee) -- The first real test for Northwest would come on this day, and they couldn't handle the Michigan defense. The Wolverines forced 19 turnovers in route to handing the Wildcats their first loss of the season.

Final Score: Michigan- 62, #15 Northwestern- 50

1/3/22- Alabama (Roy Rogers) @ #17 Florida (Noah Oppenheimer) -- This one wasn't even close, as the Gators held Alabama to just 29.8% shooting and Alabama turned it over 18 times. They managed just 17 first half points and were never in this one.

Final Score: #17 Florida- 68, Alabama- 47

1/4/22- Colorado (Rob Nielsen) @ Washington State (DeShawn St. John) -- This one was close throughout, as Washington State had a guy score 34 points. Unfortunately, fouls were a major issues, as were free throws. Colorado was 26-41 at the line while the Cougars were just 6-10. Yikes! So much for home cookin! That proved to be too much to overcome.

Final Score: Colorado- 76, Washington State- 66

1/6/18- TCU (Bee Mighty) @ #18 Kansas (Dave Johnson) -- Defense was the theme in this one again, at least for the Jayhawks. They held TCU to just 33.3% shooting and caused 17 turnovers. The Horned Frogs kept it close for a while, but in the end it was all Kansas.

Final Score: #18 Kansas- 64, TCU- 48

Now we go to the rest of the weekly recap:

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 10-7, 3-2 America East.

1/3/18 vs. Maine (W 64-54).
1/7/18 vs. Binghamton (W 70-54).

Great week for the Hawks who win 2 home games. Unfortunately for them, they've caught both teams in down years, but still, victories are victories.

ECU (Al Hutt) -- 4-8, 1-3 American.

1/3/18 vs. Florida Gulf Coast (L 73-64).
1/6/18 vs. South Florida (W 78-67).

The Pirates get their first conference win of the season, breaking a 5 game losing streak.

Tulsa (Will Brown) -- 11-5, 4-1 American.

1/3/18 vs. SMU (W 79-77).
1/6/18 vs. #21 Cincinnati (L 86-60).

A split for the Golden Hurricane this week, as they ran into a buzzsaw named Cincinnati. Next week gets a little easier with a couple winnable games.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 10-4, 2-0 Atlantic 10.

1/3/18 at George Mason (W 64-61).
1/6/18 vs. Duquesne (W 82-61).

The Wildcats get off to a good start in conference play, winning a tough one at George Mason then handling Duquesne. It looks like Coach Childress is finally putting the pieces together.

Clemson (Charles Johnson) -- 7-6, 1-2 ACC.

1/3/18 at #22 Notre Dame (W 66-63).
1/6/18 vs. N.C. State (L 74-62).

A split for the Tigers, who stun Notre Dame on the road, but can't follow it up against N.C. State. Still though, getting their first conference win over a ranked team is pretty darn nice.

Duke (Dean Hoo) -- 9-4, 1-2 ACC.

1/3/18 at #8 Miami (W 60-50).
1/6/18 vs. Pittsburgh (L 63-45).

A split for the Blue Devils, who beat the ranked team on the road but lose to a .500 Pitt team. Inconsistency my friends, inconsistency.

#18 Kansas (Dave Johnson) -- 12-3, 3-0 Big 12.

1/1/18 vs. Iowa State (W 87-84).
1/6/18 vs. TCU- feature game, highlighted above.

The Jayhawks just continue to do what they do every year in the Big 12: win! 2 good home victories and next week they'll take the tour down south through Oklahoma.

TCU (Bee Mighty) -- 8-7, 1-3 Big 12.

1/1/18 at Kansas State (L 58-44).
1/6/18 at #18 Kansas- feature game, highlighted above.

2 losses on the road for the Horned Frogs, as they may have Texas Tech's number, but they don't have any other Big 12 teams number.

Michigan (Cillian Tribble) -- 8-6, 1-1 Big Ten.

1/3/18 at #15 Northwestern- feature game, highlighted above.
1/6/18 vs. #1 Ohio State (L 91-67).

A split for the Wolverines, who hand Northwestern their first loss, but can't get by the buzzsaw of Ohio State, who might not lose a game all season.

#23 Michigan State (Al Mighty) -- 12-2, 2-0 Big Ten.

1/3/18 at Penn State (W 74-52).
1/6/18 vs. #25 Nebraska (W 85-60).

2 easy wins for the Spartans this week as they head into a rivalry game next week.

#15 Northwestern (Ess Vee) -- 12-1, 1-1 Big Ten.

1/3/18 vs. Michigan- feature game, highlighted above.
1/6/18 at #11 Wisconsin (W 71-52).

A split for the Wildcats, who lose their first game of the season against Michigan, then pull a shocker as they dominate at Wisconsin. Still haven't gotten a totally good read on this team.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 9-7, 2-0 Big West.

1/4/18 vs. Long Beach State (W 65-53).
1/6/18 vs. Cal State Northridge (W 83-74).

The Warriors start Big West play with a couple wins and they've won 7 in a row.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 4-10, 1-1 Conference USA.

1/4/18 vs. Marshall (W 73-53).
1/6/18 at Old Dominion (L 75-33).

A split for the 49ers, but yikes! That game at Old Dominion was a game to forget. Total domination and not in a good way.

Rice (Charlie Shocker) -- 7-6, 1-1 Conference USA.

1/4/18 at UTEP (W 83-77).
1/6/18 vs. UAB (L 82-72).

A split for the Owls, and they did it against very good competition, 2 of the better teams in Conference USA.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 7-10, 5-5 MAAC.

1/5/18 vs. Fairfield (W 64-53).
1/7/18 vs. Canisius (W 70-65).

A couple much needed wins for the Hawks who have been struggling as of late. They've got a couple tough games next week, so it was important to get these 2 wins this week.

Norfolk State (Payten Carrano) -- 5-9, 1-2 MEAC.

1/1/18 vs. Delaware State (L 62-51).
1/6/18 at North Carolina A&T (W 70-58).

A split for the Spartans who break a 4 game losing streak and get their first conference win of the season. Hopefully that will be the momentum they need to go on a nice run.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 7-6, 2-0 Pac 12.

1/4/18 at Washington State- feature game, highlighted above.
1/6/18 vs. USC (W 63-54).

A promising start to conference play for the Buffaloes as they get a couple wins. With the Pac 12 as wide open as it has ever been, don't be surprised to see Colorado go on a nice winning streak.

Stanford (Benito Sanchez) -- 10-4, 1-1 Pac 12.

1/4/18 vs. Oregon State (W 61-56).
1/6/18 vs. Arizona (L 64-48).

A split for the Cardinal this week, both games at home. They struggled a little bit though, barely beating Oregon State then getting hammered by Arizona.

#14 UCLA (Tim Shepard) -- 12-2, 2-0 Pac 12.

1/4/18 at California (W 85-77).
1/6/18 at Oregon State (W 74-65).

A road sweep for the Bruins this week, but next week they go home for 2 games that should be a little tougher anyways.

Washington State (DeShawn St. John) -- 8-6, 0-2 Pac 12.

1/4/18 vs. Colorado- feature game, highlighted above.
1/6/18 vs. Utah (L 63-58).

The Cougars have now lost 3 in a row after losing their first 2 conference games of the season. They need to turn it around quick or their strong start will go unnoticed.

Alabama (Roy Rogers) -- 6-8, 1-1 SEC.

1/3/18 at #17 Florida- feature game.
1/6/18 vs. Tennessee (W 71-51).

A split for the Crimson Tide as they lose to Florida but return home to hammer Tennessee. Next week they'll get their first taste of new conference member VCU.

#17 Florida (Noah Oppenheimer) -- 11-3, 1-1 SEC.

1/3/18 vs. Alabama- feature game, highlighted above.
1/6/18 at Vanderbilt (L 85-82, OT).

The Gators split this week, but they will feel fortunate to have even gone to overtime at Vandy, as they were down by as many as 15. Unfortunately, they used all their energy coming back that they didn't have anything left for the extra 5 minutes.

#2 Kentucky (Patrick Hutt) -- 13-1, 2-0 SEC.

1/3/18 at Tennessee (W 92-83).
1/6/18 vs. LSU (W 96-56).

Never saw this one coming, as the Wildcats absolutely hammer LSU, who is a pretty good team. They've won 6 in a row now since that loss to Miami in mid-December.

Troy (Brett Hawkins) -- 7-8, 4-4 Sun Belt.

1/4/18 vs. Northern Kentucky (W 77-75, OT).
1/6/18 at Northern Kentucky (L 75-73, OT).

1 of those crazy home and away back to back series, and nothing was proven as both teams won by 2 on their home court, in overtime no less.. The Trojans see their brief 3 game winning streak ended with that loss at Northern Kentucky.

Here's a look at the national top 25 going into next week:

Despite winning both games this week, Kentucky moves down a spot. UCLA moves up 4 spots after 2 wins, while Kansas moves up 7 spots. Northwestern only loses 2 spots, as the pollsters really liked that dominating win over Wisconsin. Michigan State moves up 5 spots after winning both games this week. Florida gets punished the hardest, losing 6 spots after an overtime road loss. Geez.

While Tulsa loses all their mid-major votes after getting hammered by Cincy this week, Davidson keeps it rolling and gains a lot of votes. They missed cracking the mid-major top 25 by one lousy point. Tough break!
