Mathis and the Houston Astros coming out on top of the St. Louis Cardinals 2

Mathis pitched well for Houston in their victory. He went 7 innings allowing
3 hits and 2 walks lowering his ERA from 2.95 to 2.13. Houston had a total
of 7 hits for the game.
Mathis got help from Dave Smith who was credited with his 8th save.

33,816 fans watched an exciting game at OLYMPIC STADIUM. The Montreal Expos
topped the reeling San Diego Padres by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.
The score was tied at 5 after nine. Montreal was victorious in the 10th
inning. Tim Raines doubled. Vance Law stepped up next and he doubled making
Montreal the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. San Diego
had 14 hits in the game while Montreal had 7, but Montreal had the more
timely hits.
Floyd Youmans(3-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Tim
Stoddard(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 2 hits
without retiring a batter.

Rick Aguilera had a strong outing as the seemingly unstoppable New York Mets
defeated the San Francisco Giants in 13 innings by a score of 4 to 3 at SHEA
STADIUM.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. New York won the
game in the 13th inning. Howard Johnson doubled. Len Dykstra next to the
plate and he slapped a single resulting in an exciting win for New York and a
raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. New York had 16 hits
overall, while San Francisco had 8.
Jesse Orosco(1-2) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Jim Gott(2-3)
took the loss in relief. It was another victory for New York at SHEA
STADIUM. Now their winning streak stands at 7 games.

season) resulting in a mighty exciting win for Philadelphia and the 30,768
