Kirk Gibson had 3 base hits as the Detroit Tigers outscored the California
Angels 3 to 2.
Detroit won the game with a rally in the top of the 8th inning scoring 2 runs
using 3 hits. Gibson started the inning off right when he doubled. After an
out was recorded, Darrell Evans came to the plate and doubled bringing in a
run. Chet Lemon then laced a base-hit. Larry Herndon was up next and he
would ground out scoring the final run of the inning. The game was a
scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
The victory went to Walt Terrell(4-3) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 1
run. Willie Hernandez recorded his 13th save. Mike Witt(3-5) was the losing
pitcher.

Otis Nixon had 3 base hits and 3 RBI at MUNICIPAL STADIUM as the Milwaukee
Brewers lost a heartbreaker to Cleveland Indians by the score of 8 to 7.
The deciding run was scored by Cleveland in the bottom of the 9th. Brook
Jacoby drew a walk. Andre Thornton stepped into the batter's box and he
reached on an error. Joe Carter then hit a single to load the bases. Two
outs later Tony Bernazard stepped up to the plate and he banged out a
one-base hit making Cleveland the victor and beginning a joyous home town
celebration. Cleveland totaled 14 on the afternoon.
Keith Creel(1-2) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Jaime
Cocanower(1-3) took the loss in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he
did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.

Dennis Martinez allowed Joe Altobelli to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game at OAKLAND COLISEUM as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Oakland A's by the
count of 10 to 2.
Baltimore came up with 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. That was all the
offense they were to need. Baltimore finished with 8 hits in the victory.
Martinez(4-2) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Tim
Birtsas(1-6) was tagged with the loss. He had trouble throwing strikes and
issued 7 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 5 to 3.
The game started off with New York taking the lead in the first scoring 2
runners on 3 hits. New York rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon.
Ron Guidry(7-0) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings. Dave
Righetti was credited with his 13th save. Mike Moore(2-7) suffered the loss.
He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 9 hits and 1 walk.
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Guidry said.

Danny Jackson hurled a fine complete game shutout at ARLINGTON STADIUM as the
Kansas City Royals, running on all cylinders, ripped the Texas Rangers by a
large 10 to 0 margin.
Frank White was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine
day at their team's expense. He belted a three-run homer (his 11th of the
season) in the 1st inning, laced a one-base hit scoring a run in the 3rd
inning and slapped a single in the 9th inning. Kansas City managed 13 in
their victory.
Jackson(2-3) was credited with the shutout. Mike Mason(1-4) was the loser. He
got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 6 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.

Cliff Johnson had 2 base hits as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Chicago
White Sox 13 to 5 at EXHIBITION STADIUM.
Toronto started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first when they tallied 5 runs on 5 hits. The key at-bat was by Ernie Whitt
who electrified EXHIBITION STADIUM when he lost the ball over the fence for
three runs (his 6th of the season). Toronto ended up with 16 hits for the
game while Chicago had 12.
Luis Leal(3-1) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 5 innings. The losing
pitcher was Gene Nelson(1-3). He gave up 4 runs and 3 hits in 1/3 of an
inning.
