Eddie Murray jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the Baltimore
Orioles defeated the California Angels 8 to 5 at ANAHEIM STADIUM.
Baltimore brought 6 runs across the plate in the 3rd inning with the help of 7
hits. That early scoring held up. The California batters went down meekly
in the bottom of the 9th.
Dennis Martinez(5-2) allowed 5 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Martinez got relief help from Sammy Stewart who gained credit for
his 1st save. Mike Witt(3-6) was the loser. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.

In a lop-sided win the Toronto Blue Jays ripped the Cleveland Indians by a 7
to 1 count.
Toronto took the lead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner using 3
hits. Overall Toronto out-hit Cleveland 15 to 8.
The victory went to Luis Leal(4-1) who went 5 innings, allowing 1 run. Neal
Heaton(0-8) was the losing pitcher. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits
and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
With this win, Toronto has a division leading 32-10 record. They have been
6-4 lately. With the loss, Cleveland has a record of 5-5 lately, 14-29
overall.

Danny Jackson went the distance at ROYALS STADIUM as the Kansas City Royals
beat the Chicago White Sox by the count of 5 to 1.
Chicago was unable to recover after Kansas City went ahead in the 3rd inning
when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. That was all the offense they were to
need. Kansas City had just 5 hits for the afternoon.
The win was credited to Jackson(3-3) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.
Gene Nelson(1-4) suffered the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 4 hits in 6
innings.

Robin Yount blasted a homerun and had 4 RBI at COUNTY STADIUM where the
Milwaukee Brewers beat the Minnesota Twins 10 to 2.
Yount helped send the fans home happy. He doubled in the 1st inning, stroked
a base-hit which scored a run in the 2nd inning and belted a three-run homer
(his 2nd of the season) in the 6th inning. Milwaukee had 13 hits for the
game and Minnesota had 10.
Ray Burris(3-4) got the win allowing 2 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. John
Butcher(4-3) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 5 hits in
1/3 of an inning.

The Oakland A's edged the New York Yankees at OAKLAND COLISEUM by the score of
3 to 2.
Oakland won the game with a rally in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits.
Mike Heath led off and started the attack as he doubled. Tony Phillips came
next and he slapped a one-base hit plating a run. Two outs later Dusty Baker
came up and he was walked intentionally. Bob Shirley then uncorked a wild
pitch. Dave Kingman came to the plate and was walked intentionally to load
the bases. Shirley then threw a wild pitch scoring the final run of the
inning. Oakland finished with 8 hits while New York ended up with 4.
Jose Rijo(3-1) went 4 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Shirley(1-2)
was given the loss in relief. The Oakland ballclub's record now stands at
20-22. With the loss, the New York ballclub's record is 27-13.

One run was the difference at The Kingdome as the Seattle Mariners defeated
the Detroit Tigers 5 to 4.
In the 7th inning Seattle scored 3 runs when they had 3 base hits. The big
moment was provided by Alvin Davis who thrilled the crowd when he stroked a
single scoring two baserunners. Detroit made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Roy Thomas(4-0) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Randy
O'Neal(1-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 4 hits and 2
walks in 2 innings.

First baseman Bill Buckner had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Boston Red Sox defeated
the reeling Texas Rangers by a score of 11 to 2 at ARLINGTON
STADIUM.
Buckner was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He slapped a base-hit in the 3rd inning, doubled in
the 5th inning, ripped a base-knock in the 8th inning and lofted a three-run
bomb (his 4th of the season) in the 9th inning. Boston had 19 hits overall,
while Texas had 6.
Al Nipper(5-2) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Bob Stanley
recorded his 7th save. Mike Mason(1-5) absorbed the loss. He allowed 10
hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.
