2004 Draft

The 2004 Draft found us once again with the top pick overall. Our scouts homed in on three guys to possibly use the pick on.

The first was Gary Copeland, a 6'2" 317 pound guard out of Texas-El Paso. Our scout rated him at 45/84 for run blocking and 43/82 for pass blocking.

A second option was Al Ingram, a 6'6" 211 pound terror out of Southern Methodist. Our scout rated him 52/99 on run defense, 48/91 on pass defense, 53/99 man-to-man, 54/99 zone, with an endurance rating of 54.

The third man under consideration was Lake Strickland, a 5'11" 199 pound RB with a 65 breakaway, 61/100 short yardage, 86 third down, 60/90 ypc, and a 59 catch rating.

It was a tough call, but considering Bill's rule about only being able to draft players out of Texas on defense, we decided that we couldn't pass up on the chance to get a dominating defender like Al Ingram. Thus, we selected him with the top pick of the 2004 draft.

Strickland was taken by Baltimore with the third pick of the draft, while Copeland went to Seattle at the 7th spot.

With the 27th pick of the 1st round, which we obtained in exchange for rookie QB Ralph Porter from Cincinatti after training camp last season, we selected Glen Battle, a 6'7" 289 pound guard out of Penn State. Joe Pa assured us he would deliver for us, and who are we to doubt Joe Pa? Our scout rated him at 33/67 for run blocking, 33/68 for pass blocking, and 65 for endurance.
